Lewis Smith and his wife, Serepta, came to Ottawa, MN, in 1855. There he purchased land, built houses and furniture. At the time of the Sioux Uprising, Lewis returned all of his family, except George, to Delaware County, IN, where they remained until 1866, when they returned to Ottawa. George Ribble Smith and his father, operated a furniture factory on "the stagte line" at Ottawa. Lewis and Serepta Smith had 11 children. Most of these family members attended the M. E. Church. Their youngest daughter, Elizabeth Caroline "Carrie" Smith was born on November 8, 1850, in Delaware County, IN. She was a school teacher. She married Ellis Jones at Kasota. He was the son of Evan T. and Margaret Jones. So this is my "Smith" connection to Kasota. Maybe Carrie was teaching there at that time.
