Page 4 from Herald? newspaper handwritten date: Apr. 26, 1912 Mrs. Martin Ponwith Dies at Mankato Word was received in St. Peter yesterday morning of the sad death of Mrs. Martin Ponwith of Kasota township, which occurred at the Immanuel hospital in Mankato at 12:30 o'clock a. m., following an operation. Mrs. Ponwith had been in poor health for a year or more. Recently it was found that she was suffering with appendicitis and gall stones, and on Monday she entered the hospital at Mankato. The operation, which was an unusually severe one, was performed the following morning. It was attended with a tremendous nervous shock, and after lingering until midnight Wednesday Mrs. Ponwith passed away. The deceased, whose maiden name was Ella Davis, was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry C. Davis. She was born at Lake Emily on Feb. 25, 1870, and was 42 years of age. Her marriage to Martin Ponwith took place in 1901. She was a devoted wife and an indulgent mother, and her passing will be genuinely mourned. Mrs. Ponwith is survived by her husband and two daughters, Sadie and Alice, aged seven and nine years. She also leaves her parents, four brothers and four sisters. Arrangements for the funeral had not been completed when the Herald went to press, but it probably will be held tomorrow afternoon.

She died on February 11th, 1924, and was therefore past 91 years old. In 1854 she was married to Nathaniel Burgess at Carthage. They moved to Ontario, Canada, and then to Minnesota and this locality in 1861. They lived on a farm south of town and, then in the village. About 23 years ago they moved to Richville, where Mr. Burgess died in, 1911. Since that time she had made, her home with her daughter at Gary, Ind. She was the mother of six children, three of whom are living. They are:- William J. Burgess, LeSueur Center; Henry Burgess, Glenville, Minn.; Elizabeteh Burgess Parmer, Gary, Ind. Many old friends regret to hear of the passing of this estimable pioneer woman, who was among the earlier settlers of LeSueur county and who, like so many of them, was one of a most substantial character and who did much to help in the earlier development of this community. Although not a resident here for some years she had by no means been forgotten by friends and acquaintances of an earlier day.

    1. [MNLESUEU] HORRISBERGER Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of the HORRISBERGER Family taken at the Carmichael Studio in LeSueur, Minnesota. The photograph was likely taken in the 1890's and includes 5 children, the oldest a boy (10-12 year of age), three girls (approximately 4, 6, and 8 years of age) and the youngest likely another boy (2-3 years old). I was hoping to locate the family and return the photograph, however, to date I've been unsuccessful. I need your help, it is a lovely family portrait, one which should be with the family and passed from generation to generation. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
