Dear List: My kids noticed a lot of death cert requests on another list (we share an email address). So........they started pulling death certs a few weeks ago for the Hennepin County List I'm on. My kids pull them at the Minnesota Historical Society (http://people.mnhs.org/dci/Search.cfm) and I am taking care of the email interface, all copy costs, sending them out, etc. [I don't want them to get sent to the wrong people or wrong address.] By the way, the Historical Society will pull them for you but charges $8 each (they have to pay the employees). We are willing to do this for people on this list but cannot guarantee when we will go next. It is a 35-45 min drive from our home and MHS parking charges are by the hour, so we are asking for $2.50/death cert. We do ask people to send payment and a SASE before we go and copy the certs. This will get the certs to people much more quickly since I will be able to mail them as soon as we get them. When I started this, I was worried that the database wasn't always accurate but it seems to be very reliable. If anyone on this list is interested: - Please send the name, county, date of death, and death cert ID # for each death cert from the MHS database. - Please put the words "Request for Minnesota Death Cert" in the subject line of your email. - Let me know if you are in Canada or another foreign country. - Please send the requests to us off-list so we don't clutter up the list. I will respond to each email so people are not left wondering, so please do not request it from me and someone else at the same time. Thank you. Carol & kids
Hello Joan, Yay! Yay! Looks like we have a match. How did you find Reinhold as a sibling? I thought it was interesting that Anna K. was born in 1854 in Hanover, Germany, and that her brother was born in 1855 in Berlin, Germany. That's quite a distance for those days. Did they leave from Hamburg, then? Mary's mother and other relatives lived in sm. villages near Hanover--they all left thru Bremen. There is mention of Steinigewegs and maybe Baumans somewhere in my LeSueur papers. We have two homes here in Washington. I am presently here in the Seattle one--but most of the time we live on Lopez Island up in the San Juan Islands near Victoria, B.C. My genealogy stuff is at the Lopez one. Interesting that your branch of the family ended up east of Toronto. Thanks for remembering me. Sincerely, Dorothie
The Le Sueur County Historical Society website home page appears to be missing. In other postings I have pointed people towards it. The site map page below will get you to the pages below the home page. http://www.lchs.mus.mn.us/sitemap.html Doug Peterson
This is one of the Davises that I had identified as coming from Ohio. Carolyn, Thank you for the migration information that you are aware of regarding my REED search. I will keep you info, as I continue my search for Nathan REED. Doug: Thank you for all your info, I agree, however, that there probably is not a connection to my Davis's. I know my Davis's were in this country prior to 1800, and I don't see any other connections. I do appreciate your help. Oh, the joys of researching such a common name! Carolyn
Diana: The Reed line is one about which I know the least. Here is the extent: I believe the Reed's moved westward with my Davis's from Belmont Co., OH to Vermilion County, IL by 1827. In Vermilion County is where Mary Davis (b. 1826 - 1827), married James E. Reed in 1847. I should not have written the Reed name in the Subject line in this posting as it is said that Mary & James went to Missouri after being married in Illinois. I don't believe they even went to Iowa with the rest of the family in 1849. Sorry, I'm not able to help. Carolyn Carolyn > I see a possible connection/migration to my REED line in your email. Carolyn, I see a possible connection/migration to my REED line in your email. I am looking for ancestors of Nathan Reed and his daughters Melinda and Amanda Reed, b OH, married brothers Mahlon and Anderson Bailey in Tipton Co., IN, moved to MN (some family members were in Kasota, LeSeuer Co., MN) This seems to similarly follow your moving pattern below and I see REED is one of your family names. The two Davis lines I mentioned came from Illinois and from Ohio. This is yet a third in the area. This is not surprising as Davis is a very common name. Doug: Actually, my Davis's were in Belmont County, OH 1804 - 1827. The family, and related families, moved to Vermilion County, IL 1827 - 1849. Then Black Hawk & Benton Counties, IA by 1849. After that the children were getting married and moving different directions and some went to LeSueur. I wonder if either of those places in Illinois or Ohio is the same as your Davis's? Carolyn
Which set of Davises are you researching? I know of a set in Kasota and Cleveland and another in Cleveland and Sharon Townships. The Davis's I am researching came from Benton & Blackhawk Counties, IA. They were the children of David P. Davis (b. 1800 in OH) and Levina Jane Clifton (b. 1808 in OH). All I know is that some of their children moved to LeSueur, MN. Susan Jane Davis (b. 1834) married John Ritchie and moved to LeSueur in 1862; Rebecca Davis (b. 1840)married Daniel Hites and moved to LeSueur in 1860s; Sarah Davis (b. 1844) married Levi Ramsay and moved to LeSueur, MN in the 1860s. It is possible some of the Davis grandchildren also came there in the late 1800s. Sorry don't know what towns they would have been in. Carolyn
Is anyone researching any of the following surnames in LeSueur County in the mid to late 1800s? Davis, Hites, Ritchie (or Ritchey), Reed. I am trying to track down the family of Robert Edward Roemhildt (1863-1939). Here is the listing I have: ROBERT EDWARD5 ROEMHILDT (ADELHARDT4, HEINRICH NICOL3, JOHANN CHRISTIAN2 ROMHILD, JOHANN PAUL1 ROMHILDT) was born 30 December 1863 in Elysian Township, Le Sueur Co., MN, and died 28 June 1939 in Elysian, Le Sueur Co., MN. He married EMMA ERNSTINE HEILMAN. She was born 9 October 1867, and died 11 April 1944 in Rice Co., MN. Children of ROBERT ROEMHILDT and EMMA HEILMAN are: i. ARTHUR OSCAR6 ROEMHILDT was born 23 April 1883 in Le Sueur Co., MN1, and died 7 March 1964 in Waseca Co., MN1. He married MARY CAROLINE __________. She was born 1886, and died 2 April 1960. ii. CHARLES L.6 ROEMHILDT was born 27 December 1888 in Elysian Twp., Le Sueur Co., MN, and died 7 August 1954 in Le Sueur Co., MN. He married HELEN L. She was born 18 November 1887 in Elysian Twp., Le Sueur Co., MN, and died 3 May 1961 in Waterville, Le Sueur Co., MN iii. FRIEDRIKE ERNESTINE ROEMHILDT, b. 5 September 1906, Le Sueur Co., MN. She died young, according to the church records. I believe this is all the children in this family. I have Arthur's wife as Mary Caroline. Does anyone know her maiden name? I assume that Esther was married to Arthur Zellmer. An obituary for brother Charles says he had a sister who was Mrs. Arthur Zellmer, and she is the only other child that lived to adulthood that could have married Arthur Zellmer. Is this correct? Celia was married to a Callies. Does anyone know his first name? Were Edward and Eleonore Albrecht brother and sister? If anyone has additional information, I would be interested. I'm not sure about the petitions, but I do know the actual citizenship forms are all microfilmed and there is also an index on microfilm in the MN History Center. You will find their web site at: http://www.mnhs.org/index.html Marv Vikla -----Original Message----- From: Loyal Younggren [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, January 11, 2002 4:21 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [MNLESUEU] Petition for Citizenship Did you try the MN History Center in St Paul? I have obtained Petitions, for LeSueur Co. MN, at the Le Sueur Co Genealogy Center located at Elysian, MN. Check there web page for info through USGenWeb.com. Click on State pages then click on Graphic Map. Click on MN. Then click on Select a MN co. Click on Le Sueur Co. Then on Le Sueur Co Genealogy Center. Under Records on micro film they show immigration records. They are a volunteer group and it may take awhile to get a reply during the winter months. I recently heard or read somewhere (I have an excellent memory, but it's short!!) that new citizens had to file a detailed Petition for Citizenship or some such document five years before citizenship was granted. I understand that the petition was far more detailed than the grant itself and it was filed with a county office. I just called the Recorder's Office in Le Center and was told that they do not have that kind of document there and she did not know what county office might have it. Can anyone tell me where to find such a document if it indeed does exist? I am looking for clues as to what part of Sweden my maternal grandmother, Mathilda Charlotta (Swenson) Forsberg came from. Thanks and Happy New Year to all.
