I'm sorry not to have the whole story but it was changed at some point to Le Center. People do pronounce it "Lee" Center. Le Sueur is a totally separate town on the west side of the county on the river. Le Center is in the middle of the county.

An free index for naturalizations from MN District Courts and the Alien Registrations is available from http://www.ironrangeresearchcenter.org/ They also will provide copies of the papers. The work is done by the local genealogical society, who also did the indexes, for a fee. Hi, I recently got the "bee" to hunt for my dear hubbies ancestors and am finding a lot of them in (Le Sueur) MN during the mid to late 1800's. I suspect that Patrick O'Brien b. May 1830 in Ireland and d. 7 Apr 1907 is a gggg grandfather. According to census and to Ancestry, Patrick immigrated to America in 1846 According to Ancestry.com he is listed on the Minnesota Naturalization Records Index, 1854-1957 in (LeSueur) MN Reel 2 Code 6 Volume A page 68 Can you tell me how to order this record, please. Also could you tell me the approximate cost. Thanks! Gail Lies [email protected] If I manage this one I have 2 more to try to get but want to see what a file contains!
Reprints of the history have been available but are no longer. If you have access to libraries with a historical or genealogical section, you will often find it there. An index to the biographies in the history can at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/mn/lesueur/lesueur.html John Dalby's work can be searched on Ancestry.com. Hi Mary Lu, I am not familiar with George R. Smith, but would like to share info.. Julius CHAPMAN's mother Mary/Polly SMITH CHAPMAN died in Kasota. She is first cousin to Joseph Smith, Jr., The Mormon Prophet. Her father Jesse SMITH was against the pilgrimage to Utah of his brother and nephew. Don't know if this info helps in making any connection to George SMITH. Julius Chapman was born in 1841 in No. Stockholm NY, where Joseph Smith, Jr's grandfather Asahel SMITH died in 1830. Julius CHAPMAN married Lillian Jane HODGES in 1867 in Kasota. Lillie was born NY, but I don't now where, or if she and Julius knew each other prior to Kasota. Julius is listed as a "Side Supervisor" of the newly formed Elmo Township, Ottertail Co., MN in 1880. On the 1900 Census, Julius CHAPMAN is in Oak Valley, Ottertail Co., MN By 1915 he and Lillian and her widowed mother Salina P. LINDSEY HODGES were in Sentinel Butte, Golden Valley Co., ND. After Julius CHAPMAN died, Lillian CHAPMAN and her mother moved to Couer D'Alene ID, where Salina P. LINDSEY HODGES died in 1923. Lillian CHAPMAN died in Puyallup, WA in 1925. I would love to compare notes with you and hope we would find a commonality to connect Julius CHAPMAN and George SMITH. Hope you see something above which helps tie us together.
