    3. The Minnesota Historical Society has placed their book "Minnesota Places" on their website -- <www.mnhs.org/> which is very helpful. In addition to locations of places, many of which no longer exist, there is often biographical or other historical information about why the place was named, whether it was a railroad station, ethnicity of the early settlers, etc. Fun to get some background and an extra window on an ancestor's life! 3. Hi Marylu, et al, I have a slew of Youngs from Ireland that came thru PA to Sibley County, MN in the 1855 time frame. There were a number of Henrys, plus William, Michael, and John. No Benjamin Franklin or none named Harry from 1866 that I know of. They were closely related to my Doheny ancestors and my Grimes ancestors from Jessenland and Henderson. Mine got there in 1852-53 and went thru the Sioux Indian uprising in Henderson. But I was always told they were from "LeSueur", so I thought of them right away when I saw your posting. I guess I should have asked first if your site is for people with "LeSueur" addresses, or if it is only for Le Sueur County residents. Ben's sister, Henrietta Eleanor Young, married Matthew John Breidenthal. They also l ived in Sibley County. At the time of the Sioux Uprising, Ben and Mary returned to Pennsylvania where my grandfather, Harry A. Young was born in 1866. But Ben and family returned to Sibley County when it was safe again and resided on the old home place the rest of their lives. The Breidenthals arrived in St. Paul by flatboat, coming down the Ohio River and arriving in St. Paul in 1855. So apparently the two couples arrived at the same time. According to Breidenthal researchers, at the time of the Sioux Uprising, Matthew moved his family in to LeSueur, and was named a "Provost Marshal". Later they moved to LaBette County, KS. 2. Richard Berkheiser
    3. Hi everyone! My name is Rick Berkheiser and I'm your new List Administrator for MNLESUEU Mailing List. If you have any list problems, please feel free to contact me at [email protected] . As your new admin, I would like the topics on this list to include a well balanced diet of PEOPLE, PLACES, and THINGS. PEOPLE. If it weren't for people, we wouldn't have much to talk about. :-) Post individual surnames occasionally, then repost a month later. This way you can catch newer members of the list and maybe those that didn't receive the message in the first place. While we don't call it this, but its really a perpetual Roll Call. Only let's try to keep our list queries to one person or one couple at a time. It is not necessary to post three or four generations in one e-mail. It gets a little confusing and overwhelming, especially for those in plain text Digest Mode. PLACES. Please post information about places that used to exist in Le Sueur County and what function they served. This would include churches, family farms, businesses, etc. If you know the origins of place names, rivers, etc., please post those as well. THINGS. This one goes hand in hand with PLACES. This could include landmarks, items native to Le Sueur Co., and things manufactured there. Also: If you find a good source or website, post it here. If you have information to share, post it here. Find an interesting tidbit? Post it here. Hopefully this will make our list experience a more enjoyable and fruitful one! :-) Thanks! Rick B List Administrator

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Kopet, Copet, Sirek Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/DIB.2ACE/391 Message Board Post: Last year my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer; my dad with numerous diabetes-related issues. The stress of it all, including our 4 year old dog dying the day after my birthday of lymphomia led to my nervous breakdown earlier this year. At the end of August, I woke to a bat in my bedroom above my head, that most likely bit me and I had to go through the rabies shots. I have escaped death twice this year and it has given me a refocused concentration on my family. My dream is to locate a photograph of my great-great-great grandfather, Mathias "Mike" Kopet, who lived in Montgomery, Le Sueur County, Minnesota from about 1874 until his death in 1912. Mathias's eldest son, Thomas, was my great-great grandfather. For whatever reason, he moved out of Montgomery by 1883 and was in Wisconsin in 1890 and changed the spelling from "Kopet" to "Copet". The family link to MN was severed. Over time, I have reached some distant relatives and received photocopies of a photo of his only brother that lived past 1895, James/Wencel and his only sister Eva Kopet-Sirek. No one knows of a photograph of Mathias, but the fact that he was a "prominent" farmer in the community and lived well into the early part of the Twentieth Century makes it hard for me to believe there is not a photograph somewhere of him. Because I've learned how precious life is, I am dedicating all my "spare time" in locating a photograph of Mathias. If there is someone out there who has or knows someone that has a photograph of Mathias. I am willing to pay/reimburse someone for a copy for a realistic cost. Of course, I'd need some type of documentation, but you understand where I'm coming from. The community that uses Rootsweb is outstanding and been of incalculable help and I hope that once more, someout out there can help me again in achieving this dream! Thank you!! (Attached is a photo of Thomas Kopet/Copet)
