It is one of the quietest lists I subscribe to! Do tell us who/where you are researching? Hello, List. I am researching the family of my gr-gr-grandfather Edward Kavanagh, born 1805-10 in County Carlow, Ireland, emigrated to US about 1850. I have located him in "The Extant Records of Monongalia County, MN 1858-1870," listed as Edward *Caranage*, 53, Farmer, on a 1860 Census of P.O. Harrison. Further searching in "Kandiyohi County, MN Biography," the township of Harrison, page 231 First Settlers, Pre-emptors and Squatters, lists "CAVANAUGH, Edward-- Born in Ireland; located claim on sec. 18, Aug 17, 1857; secured title in 1862; moved to Wright county, where he died. CAVANAUGH, John-- son of Edward Cavanaugh; located claim on secs 18 and 19, Nov 1, 1858; enlisted in the war and was never heard from." Is anyone researching this family? I have both of them located in Wright County, but would like to flesh out the story of the years in this county. Thanks for any suggestions. Jean Gobel Tacoma, WA USA

I've rescued an old photograph album which includes a photograph of "Cousin" John ERICKSON with Aunt Emma & Helmer. The photograph was taken at the Baklund & ???? Studio in Willmar, Minnesota. It was probably taken in the late 1890's or early 1900's with all three appearing to be in their teens at the time. Emma might be Emma LARSON MILLER, but I can't be sure of that. Other surnames which appear in the album are: GRISWOLD OLSON BROWN PETERSON HAGEN HOLMBERG MERRIL JOHNSON THOMPSON OFSTAD ANDERSON With photographs also originating from: Minneapolis, MN Chicago, IL Litchfield, MN Benson, MN Stillwater, MN New Paynesville, MN St. Paul, MN Bronno, Norway Mosjoen, Norway Skjevlo, Norway Stjordalen, Norway Baelum, Norway I'm hoping to be able to locate these families so that the photographs can be returned to family members. If you are a member of this ERICKSON family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

Anker Line came into being around 1865, I believe. I found the registration info for the family at Digitalarkivet. It states they left May, 1869, on SS Norway. SS Norway came into service that year, but as far as I know was only a feeder line from Norway to Liverpool. I don't know how they got from Liverpool to ?St. Cloud. There were a bunch of folks who left from Aure/More og Romsdal on the same date.

My g-grandparents came to the USA on this ship around 1880, so that's how I ended up with it. Handwritten on the bottom of this post card is written, "Mother arrived on this ship, 1883". I would be happy to email you a copy of the scans that I did of this postcard and the typed out document with the translation, if you're interested. This post card says the company was established "27 years ago". I don't know how old the card was when my g granparents got it, but it would have had to have been in the mid 1850's.
