He came here from Canada in 1866. I have found him on the 1880 census with children: William, Hugh, Mary and Nettie. I found his son and grandson on subsequent census lists. Does anyone know where Peter in Canada Peter came from, who his parents were, the names of his other children and wife, and when he died. Thanks for any information.

I found the Njust bio quite interesting and lots of info I had not known. I had Thea and Markus Njust with 4 children - but Manford was not one of them. I will have to do some double checking on my info which came from a now deceased cousin. I had no idea where any of the the children lived. I have often wondered if there is any connection between Pastor Njus (lives in Willmar and connected to Norway Lake church) and Pastor Markus Njust. I would be interested in seeing the pictures you have. I cannot connect with Lars Holter yet .. perhaps a grandson of Anne? You have given me much to think about and new directions to search. I thank you. Phyllis ... [email protected]

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/wIB.2ACI/233.2.1 Message Board Post: I kept running across Anne/Anna's name doing research on my family. She had a homestead adjoining that of my great grandfather in Norway Lake Township, Ole Johannessen Rindahl, but lived in Arctander Township as far as I know. I once found a reference to her in one of the articles on NAHA's website, but can't locate it now. It was about one of the pastor-sons and mentioned her as "Mother Christoffersen" or "Mother Holter". I can't locate it now, but will keep searching. I've wandered far afield from my family in "researching" and the article I'm thinking of may have been found while looking up some of the early pastors in Norway Lake. Have a photo of Pastor Markhus, and Pastor Muus has a fascinating bio on St. Olaf College archives website - quite surprising. The names written on the photographs were written by my mom not long before she died at age 82, and the names aren't all easy to read. There are two of "Esther", one a wedding and one "Esther and Hilda Roen", I believe. I've not been looking at this side of the fam tree for a while, so will get back into it and refresh my memory. There is a Lars Holter in the Norway Lake church data, here: http://www.pressenter.com/~gregboe/kandiyohi_county.htm In the 1880 census, the Hande family is listed just above Anne's family. Have a photo of one them - Olaf - as a young man, with another unidentified young man. They are all scanned so it will be easy to email to anyone interested. There is a bit about Thea Holter, here: http://www.webfamilytree.com/markus_m__njust_family.htm I visited the family farm as a child, so Norway Lake and some of the families are very familiar to me. Thanks for your help.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/wIB.2ACI/233.2 Message Board Post: I am the 2nd gr grand daughter of Anne Christoffersen. She, her husband Christoffer Olson, 6 sons and 1 daughter came to America via Canada & Detroit in 1862. Three daughters were born during their stay in Arendahl, Fillmore, MN (1863, 1865 & 1867). Christoffer died of typhoid in 1866. After her husbands death, Anne took her 10 children to Norway Lake. Two sons became ministers, Karl and Christian. Karl was resident pastor of Nannestad Hauge Synod Church in Norway Lake (1880-1887). You mentioned "buried" articles about the Holter pastor .. if someday you happen to "un-bury" them perhaps you would consider sharing them with me? I would be most appreciative. I do not recognize the name Esther Roen or Hilda. I would be interested in seeing the picture you mentioned .. perhaps I can help identify the Holter. I have a little information concerning the Holter stay in Norway Lake - but not much. I have a picture of a church where Olaus - the oldest son is reportedly bur! ied (b. 1847 d. 1880) but don't know it's name or location (or even if it still exists) other than in Norway Lake. I am happy to offer other information if you're interested. My grandfather was born in Norway Lake in 1887 - his sister born in Minneapolis in 1889 .. so my grand father's family moved sometime between these two dates. Anne died in Northwood, Grand Forks, ND. on March 27, 1922. Hope this answers some of your questions. I look forward to hearing from you. Phyllis

Any information that you have, I would love to learn sometime! There is 1 listing of Marten A. Olson in Willmar, 1-320-235-4497 and about 23 listings for Kallevig. Can I help you in any way? I grew up in Willmar, my father was Gordon Goehring, Ments brother. We lost him to colon cancer in 1989. That is so exciting that Ment and Ethel have come to visit you! They are wonderful people! My mother was jealous of Ethel! (only a little, haha) They were both excellent cooks!

The Ole Martin Olson I am looking for was a nephew of Johannas uncle named Mathias Kallevik. This Mathias Kallevik was born in 1859 and lived in Norway. He was a brother of Elias Kallevig (Johannas father). Mathias was married to a sister of Ole Martin Olsons mother. So as you can see the Ole Martin Olson was not in family with your grandmother, but connected to the family. Mathias Kallevik (Elias brother) was my great grandfather. He was also in USA (Spicer, Kandiyohi) before he went back to Norway and married here in Kallevik, Norway. I know that his nephew Ole Martin emigrated about 1900 and was thinking that he maybe went to the same place as his uncle earlier lived. This also means that you and me are relatives (3.cousins), our great grandfathers Elias and Mathias Kallevig were brothers. Ethel and ment Goering have visited our home here in Norway several times.

    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Eric HELQUIST taken at the Carlson & Wold Studio in Willmar, Minnesota. I would guess that the photograph was taken in the 1880's or 1890's and that Eric was in his 20's at the time. I'm hoping to locate someone from Eric's family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to its rightful place with family. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
