Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/wIB.2ACI/265 Message Board Post: I am encluding a copy of my gt. grandmother's obit., hoping that I might find some descendants of the children mentioned. William and Mabel Brooks were in Kandiyohi Co in the 1920 and 1930 census. Their children were: Eugene, Benjamin, Bessie, Bernice, Phoebe J. and Dorothy V. Brooks. I believe that Leonard and Emma Schoumaker were in the area through the 1930's and perhaps Emma stayed after Leonard died in 1939. Their children were Edward, Pearl, Elmer, Robert, Victor and Dora Schoumaker. Isabella, known as Dollie, Brooks and William P. Schoumaker also lived in Kandiyohi Co. at least through the 1930's. Their children were Bertha "Bertie", Myrtle and Harold Schoumaker. Matilda Brooks and Charles Schultz were probably married in MN but they were in Canada from about 1911 until 1920. OBITUARY OF MRS. CLARINDA BURKE (New London Times Jan. 3, 1935) Clarinda Burk passed away Dec. 27, 1934 in the morning very unexpectedly at the home of her son-in?law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. W.P. Schoumaker from a heart attack. She had seemed well as usual the night before and talked to her husband about 30 minutes before she was found dead. Grandma Burk, as she was better known to all her friends was born in Quebec, Canada on October 18, 1851 and came to Minnesota with her at the age of 3 years. On February 18, 1869 she was united in marriage to Charles B. Brooks at Blue Earth, Minnesota. To this union 9 children were born six of whom are living to mourn the loss of a kind and loving mother. They are as follows: A.H. Brooks of Oregon City, Oregon; W.E. Brooks of Georgeville, Minn.; G.F. Brooks of Bartlett, Missouri; (Emma) Mrs. L. Schoumaker of Wilmar; (Dollie) Mrs. W.P. Schoumaker of Georgeville; (Matilda) Mrs. Charles Schultz of Little Falls, Minn. The husband, two daughters and one son have gone before her. She was married to Wm. Burk on Oct. 22, 1900, who survives her. She also leaves besides her husband and children 29 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She will be greatly missed by all. Funeral services were held at Hawick, Minnesota at the first Methodist Episcopal church, Rev. George C. Fenscke officiating and was laid to rest in the Hawick cemetery, Sunday, Dec. 30. She was a member of the First M.E. church of Wilmar. The Pall bearers were 6 grandsons of the departed. Edward, Elmer, Robert, and Victor Schoumaker of Wilmar, Willie Schultz of Little Falls, Minn. and Eugene Brooks of Georgeville.
I need someone to help me find a headstone and photograph a headstone (no idea where he's buried), census information and a death certificate. If anyone is going to the MNHS and get can me a copy of his death certificate it would be very much appreciated. My mother has told me he died in Minnesota and I know that's a big area. I'm guessing he was buried in Kandiyohi County. Any and all help would be great. Thank you! The Kandiyohi County Historical Society has many old school yearbooks. You could ask the volunteers there to make copies of whatever information they have on Miss Thompson, as well as copies from yearbooks for the years that you'd indicated she taught there. The cost is very minimal and very rewarding. Dear Listmembers, The old German newspaper "Ostfriesische Nachrichten" was published by Pastor L. Hündling [Huendling} in 1882 in Iowa as a connecting paper between the people in the new American settlements and the old homeland with news and events in Ostfriesland and the "New World". Later you could find this newspaper all over the U.S. and Ostfriesland. For the period between 1882 and 1915 the issues were microfilmed around 20 - 30 years ago. According to a descendant of Pastor Huendling about 10 years ago, most of the issues between 1916 and 1971 got lost on the way to a processing center to be microfilmed. Besides Rev. Kenneth DeWall and others, who published in the past some indexes of (only) obituaries, we started in 1997 reading each newspaper for 1882 - 1915 and 1916 - 1971 (single issues) from the front to the back and taking all of the personal data in obituaries and local news into computer files. We added also interesting stories about the events in the New World - especially for the German readers -. So far we have listed 10,300 names of deceased between 1882 and 1915 plus 12,300 names of relatives, and until 1971 only 2,000 deceased / 5,000 relatives. Now we are looking for issues of this newspaper between 1916 and 1971. The undersigned would appreciate your answer if you have access to those issues. We have the microfilms from Crest Information Technologies and Heritage Crest, both in Cedar Rapids, IA. Most of the single issues after 1916 are scattered all over the U.S. and Germany. We guess, maybe finding them in the attics, etc. of old East Frisian settlements in the States. Thank you very much in advance for your help in preserving the data. Sincerely, Hans-Georg Boyken Ostfriesland-Society of Iowa, Inc. [email protected]
