I have solved most of the mysteries in the past months, except for data on my grandfather, Peter Miller -- he married my grandmother, Augusta Annie Mork, in November of 1897. I have been unable to get any family background information on him other than that he was born in Denmark, came to Minnesota at age 16 in 1888, entered the "Ag (Dairy) School in St. Paul," where he studied butter-making, graduating in 1895. He was reportedly an apprentice butter-maker before leaving Denmark. We have been unable to get anyone at the St. Paul campus of the University of MN to go into the Archives and pull out the matriculation records he must have provided to gain entrance -- They are all "too busy, and do not have enough personnel," Oh Well! Any help with information within the histories that pertains to Peter Miller would be most appreciated. Thank you again. Wayne Johnson

At both services large gatherings of friends and congregational members met to pay respect to the departed. Rev. Jesper Holmquist of the Bethel church delivered two able sermons in the Swedish and English languages. Auditor Samuel Nelson rendered a vocal solo and the Mixed Quartet of the church sang a number. The reamins were taken to Tripolis during the early afternoon where services were held at three o'clock. Here Rev. Holmquist and Rev. C. G. Olson occupied the pulpit. Miss Linnea Newquist, soprano, rendered a solo. The remains were laid to rest in the churchyard. Those who bore the remains to that earthly tomb were six grandsons; Elmer, Theodore, and Algot Johnson, John and Jalmar Bergquist and Clarence Hedin. Emma Charlotta (Håkanson) Bergquist was born April 8, 1840, at Herråkra församling, Kronobergs län, Sweden. Here she spent her girlhood and youth. In 1864 she was united in marriage to John Bergquist who preceded his lifemate into the eternal on October 10, 1918. To this union, while residents in Sweden, a daughter, now Mrs. Frank Johnson of Willmar, was born. The family left their native land in the year 1868 coming to America. They came directly to Kandiyohi county. They selected a farm in the vicinity of Tripolis and resided there until 1898. In the farm home the family which now mourns departed parents was born and reared. In 1898 the family moved to the city of Willmar where residence was made at 109 Becker ave. West. In 1918 the father passed on and during the same year, Mrs. Hedin (Ida Bergquist) was called into the Beyond. The deceased became critically ill some six weeks prior to her death which visited the home on October 4th. Heart weakness and infirmities of old age hastened the end. The departed had been a member of the Bethel congregation since the year 1902 when the family became communicant members. She is mourned by four daughters, Mrs. Frank Johnson and Mrs. Christ Johnson of Willmar, Mrs. C. J. Noid of Mason, Wis., and Mrs. Andrew Stromberg, and four sons, Otto, Theander, Victor and Elmer Bergquist of Willmar. Immediate relatives are two nephews, William Johnson of Milaca and Frank Stromquist of Minneapolis. The departed parents and brothers and sisters have all preceded her in death. Those present from a distance at the rites were; Mr. and Mrs. F. Stromquist, Hazel and Edith Bergquist, Mr. and Mrs. Axel Isaacson of Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Anderson of Clinton; Mr. and Mrs. P. A. Peterson and Mr. and Mrs. J. Carlson of Brainerd; Mr. and Mrs. A. Stromberg of Milaca; Mrs. George Peterson of Olivia; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Kleven of Brooten; Mr. Aron Liedholm of Grove City. The lives of our pioneer men and women are an inspiration of the living. Peace be to the memory of this good women!

Hallberg These are the life runes of William S. Hallberg to whom death came so suddenly on Sunday, Nov. 23, 1941. William Swenson Hallberg was born in Bosjökloster parish, Malmöhus län, Sweden, on March 1, 1872. he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in this parish and here he spent his early youth and attended the common school. The parish derives its name from the estate of the same name where in the middle ages was located the richest and best known convent of the Benedictine order in all of Scania. It had a very picturesque location on a peninsula in the beautiful lake "Ringsjön." When he attained his majority in 1893, William emigrated to America, coming directly to Kandiyohi, and in this community he spent the remainder of his life, except two years spent at Aitkin and Minneapolis. First beginning to work as a farm hand, he finally vested his savings in farm land north of the village where he developed a fine estate. In later years he turned the management of his farm over to his sons,a nd built a modern residence for himself and wife across t! he road from the old homestead where he enjoyed the last years fo his life. He was an efficient and progressive farmer and was always ready to assist in public undertakings and help build up the community. In the year 1901 he was united in marriage to Miss Alma Peterson, who survives him with four children - the sons, Harry Hallberg and Roy Hallberg of Kandiyohi and William Hallberg of Lynden, Washington; and the daughter Nora, at the home near Kandiyohi. There are six grandchildren. Other survivors of his family are two brothers - Swan Hallberg of Graceville and Nels Hallberg of Owatonna; also a sister, Mrs. A. M. Olson, of Chipman, Alberta, Canada; and two cousins, Frank and John Jepson of Winthrop. Soon after his arrival from Sweden, he became affiliated with the Tripolis Lutheran church, but in 1913 he transferred his membership to Ebenezer church in the village, where he remained a faithful member until his death. On the morning of his death he attended services as usual and seemed in good health. Late in the afternoon at his home north of the village, he suffered an attack of heart trouble which caused his sudden departure from this life. The news of his death was a shock to the community and many friends elsewhere. He attained the age of 69 years, 8 months, and 23 days. The memorial services were held in the afternoon of Friday, Nov. 28. Arriving from the home, the cortage came to the Ebenezer church, which was too small to room the many friends who had come to pay their respects to the memory of their good friend and neighbor. Rev. H. G. Berg, the pastor, conducted the service and made a fine address. A vocal solo, "Det Brister en Sträng Här nere," was rendered by Mrs. harry Anderson; another, "All the Way My Saviour Leads Me," was sung by Mr. Clarence Johnson; and a trio was sung by Mrs. Elsie Hawkinson, Mrs. A. E. Hawkinson and J. V. Holmberg, "Om jag egde allt men icke Jesus". There were many flowers and offerings to the missions given to his memory. The pallbearers were the three sons - Roy, Harry, and William Hallberg, Victor Bloomquist, Edwin Lisecki and Waldo Shosten. The interment took place at the Ebenezer Lutheran cemetery north of the village, which is laid out on a part of the land taken from the farm of the departed. The late November sun of a fine day lighted up the scene as the casket was committed to the resting place. As the pastor well said, "The deceased was blest with a cheerful and sunny disposition, was a loving husband and father, and a sincere friend and neighbor. He will be sincerely missed." Those in attendance from a distance were Mr. Swan Hallberg, Mr. and Mrs. William Holtz and son, and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Holtz, all of Graceville, Mr. and Mrs. Henry hansen and daughter, Mrs. Frank Loffhagen, Mrs. August Ostlund, Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Plumley, Dr. and Mrs. L. M. Jones and son; and Ethel Hallberg, all of Minneapolis, John and Frank Jepson of Winthrop; Mr. and Mrs. William Noteboom of Lynden, Washington; Mr. George Peterson and Mrs. Walter Larson of DeGraff. "Tviflar du på redlighet och ära tviflet derpå dagens lösen är stig till grafven! Låt dess röst dig lära, att de bägge nyss ha funnits här." CARD OF THANKS We wish to express our sincere and heartfelt thanks to all our relatives, friends, and neighbors for the kindness and sympathy shown us in the loss of our dearly beloved husband, father, and grandfather, William S. Hallberg. Mrs. William Hallberg and family.
