It said his parents, Olof Carlson and Ellen Hawkins, came from Grove City, Minnesota, and later lived in Kandiyohi County. I would like to find out more about the family tree of such a great inventor. The Smithsonian article said he made a lot of money and gave it all to charity, and that a book about him, by David Owen, has recently been published. Daughter Caroline born 11/7/1859 in Wiota, Wisconsin and died 9/13/1923 in Norway. She married Henrik Johannesen STRAND in East Norway Lake, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota on 6/25/1880. Son Edward married Kathleen PAULSEN. Daughter Inger Marie was born 1865 in Norway Lake Township, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota and died 3/11/1916 in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Son Oluf was born 2/4/1867 in Norway Lake Township, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota and died 1/19/1915 in Lake Andrew Township, Minnesota. He married Nellie Helen Nelson in Minnesota. Daughter Mina was born 4/25/1870 in Norway Lake Township, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota and died 5/15/1940 in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. She married Cornelius J. NEWBERGER. They have two children. Son Bruce and daughter Jennifer. Son James Roger who was born 8/16/1944 in Willmar, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota. James married Cathy LANAMEN. They have two children, son David James who was born 1977 in Minnesota and daughter Amy Louise born before 5/1981. Nils Edmund ALVIG was born on 1/3/1907 in Willmar, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota and died 7/31/1986. Nils was the son of Peder Pederson-ALVIG who was born on 3/22/1849 in Ytre Aalvik, Norway. Peder died on 10/16/1942 in Willmar, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota. Peder married Anna Endreson-ROSSELAND. Anna was born on 10/5/1859 in Willmar, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota and died 9/19/1944 in Willmar, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota. They had a total of 15 children including Nils. Anna was the daughter of Guri Endreson who saved a number of settlers during the Sioux uprising of 1862. They is a monument in Guri's honor and the original log cabin was donated by the family, where she had lived. Guri's fallen husband in buried by the cabin where he was killed by the Indians. My husband is one of Guri's great grandsons. We live in Brooklyn Park, Hennepin County, Minnesota. My mother-in-law was the granddaughter of Guri ENDRESON ALVIG. (Gertrude ALVIG Carlson) James ALVIG lives in Maple Grove, Hennepin County, Minnesota. My brother-in-law Philip Carlson still lives on the family farm in Willmar, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota where the ALVIG family homesteaded when President Grant signed the petition. I'm searching for obituaries to two brothers that both was born in Norway. Andrew - Anders and Even Railson wass two of the first settlers in Norway Lake. They came there in 1859 from Green County in Wisconsin. Anders or Andrew died 11.02.1915 , I believe in Norway Lake area, His Cert ID was : 1915 - MN - 005943 His brothet Even died 09.05.1906 I belive also that he died in Norway Lake. Children were Lars, Christian and J...... They were still living there ten years later, so presumably put down roots. Christopher was a brother of my great grandmother, so any descendants of his are distant relatives of mine.
