Author: MNGenWeb Surnames: Mielke Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.minnesota.counties.kandiyohi/348.4/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Lone Tree Township, Chippewa County, Minnesota In Section 23, SESE corner is Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. No Mielke there and it started in 1937. A 1900 map of Lone Tree shows a German Lutheran Church in the SWSW corner of Section 1. It appears that Fred Bruss once owned that land. There is no evidence of the church today. Even the 1993 "History of Chippewa County, MN" claims that Lone Tree township had no church. I am going to ask the historical society to verify this. I believe the congregation moved or rebuilt the church in the German town of Raymond, MN. And they may have moved a cemetery into town. I found two addresses for them on www.anywho.com One must be for the parish and other for the church. St Johns Lutheran Church 401 Day St N Raymond, MN 56282 (320) 967-4129 St Johns Lutheran Church 308 Menage Ave N Raymond, MN 56282 (320) 967-4445 I have to go to Willmar this week. Weather permitting I will try to check out the two cemeteries in town. You can search Land Patents here. http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/ Click on Search Land Patents Pick Minnesota and use just Mielke. One of the William Mielke's (you have b. 1889) would have been old enough for two of them. I found no obit for Otto nor Augusta in Montevideo Leader/News. Raymond had a newspaper that started in 1902. They have microfilm on it at the historical society. http://kandimuseum.com/ResearchCenter.htm Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have digitally photographed about 15000 markers in Chippewa and some cemeteries in neighboring counties. I am almost done with Chippewa. I have Granite Falls and Clara City (big ones) and some little cemeteries by Maynard and Bunde. On May 14th I will be working in the cities again and plan on grabbing those on Saturday mornings. It is taking time to index them all. And the two cemeteries at Raymond are high on my hit list. And highway 7 runs through southern Kandiyohi so they are next. I already took the one by Lake Lillian thinking I was in the town of Bunde. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hi, I'm sending the obituary of David J. Price, my husband's great uncle. In the article about his 78th birthday, mention of a full sized portrait was made. Does anyone know if the portrait is still in existence? Thank you. Donna Price Three brothers, Edward Price, J. W. Price and Evan Price, had passed on before; also two sisters, Mrs. Grace H. Jones and Mrs. Kate P. Vye. Beside the sister above named there are several nephews and nieces. Among those present from a distance were the following relatives: Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Vye of Wheaton; Mr. and Mrs. Jay Price of Milbank, S. D.,; Mrs. J. Martin and daughter; Mrs. Catharine Prindle and Mrs. C. V. McDougal, all of Minneapolis. The funeral was largly attended and included friends from a distance. Biographies: David J. Price was born at Dodgeville, Wis., August 5, 1855. His parents were John and Katherine Price, natives of Wales, in Great Britain. When he was thirteen years of age, the family came to this state, and took up their residence about three miles northwest of New London, just north of where Lloyd Jones now lives. As far as records show, this was the only Welsh family among the early pioneers of Kandiyohi county.) While their residence was at that place, Mr. Price's father died, and about the year 1876 the family moved to the home a short distance north of New London which continued to be the home of Mr. Price until his death. The mother died in 1898 at the age of 86 years. Mr. Price was a public spirited, highly respected man. He always took a deep interest in the questions of the day and for thirty-three years he served his township as clerk. He was a man of culture, well read. The best literature, both in magazines and books were always at hand, and no man in the county did more reading than he did. He was justly regarded as one of the county's best citizens, and while he had reached a good old age, still his passing is regarded as a distinct loss to the community. 78TH Birthday Was Observed By The Community A year ago last Sunday the people of the north part of the county gave an appreciative social in honor of the late Mr. Price's 78th birthday. A life-size portrait was unveiled in the Burbank Town Hall where the gathering was held. There was a large attendance, and a number of talks were made by old friends and neighbors expressing the feelings of respect and appreciation in which Mr. Price was held. To these Mr. Price responded. Musical numbers were interspersed and refreshments were served. An extended report of this gathering was published in theDaily Tribune on August 7, following. The writer remembers with gratitude the visits from David J. price at the early printng office at New London when kindly and patiently he presented his views of public affairs to the kid editor, and we feel that we owe much tothe inspiration he gave up along the lines of progressive ideas. He was a thorough progressive in his convictions, not used great discrimination in choosing leadership. May his memory live among us. Aug. 7, 1934 WILLMAR TRIBUNE, AUGUST 8, 1934

Who are you looking for? Are you looking for old or new burials? I plan on going there to take a pictures, I'm waiting for the rest of the snow to melt and maybe for the grass to green up. If you plan on going there yourself, if you are downtown Spicer, go around the south side of Green Lake road going east towards the Green Lake Bible Camp (don't go that far), then you will find a tar road to the right that goes to Kandiyohi, Mn.. Go down that road and you will see the church && cemetery on the right side of the road. Family tree info on him is very limited, but believe he immigrated when he was about 19. Otto's wife (Augusta Wilhelmina Rathke) was born in Germany 25-apr-1858, died in Chippewa, Lone Tree twp, Raymond MN 27-Oct-1924. I found Otto with wife Augusta and six kids in 1900 census, Potter County SD, Canton township. Next door is a Herman Mielke, married to Anna, with three kids. Given the proximity I really suspect that Herman is a brother, but I dont have any family history beyond Otto, so am not 100% on that. :-) Otto and Augusta (Rathke) had seven children, all born in South Dakota. At least part of that family moved to Kandiyohi county, with at least two children who died in the area; William Mielke(1889-1969) and Frank Mielke (1894-1984) both died in Kandiyohi. My connection to this family is via Otto's daughter (Anna). Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. "An Atwater Man Killed In Stearns County. Last Monday evening a dispatch came to this station announcing that John Bradley, a well known young farmer who has for a number of years resided near Atwater, had been killed by the cars, at Avon, a station in Stearns county, on the line of the St. P., M., & M. Railroad. The message was promptly delivered to Bradley's wife and parents, who reside on a farm about a mile north of town. Consternation and woes filled that household when the parents heard that their only son and only child, who just the Thursday before had left home, full of life, healthy, and in the strong vigor of his young manhood, had been so suddenly summoned to meet his Maker in the other world. The grief of the mother was especially unconsolable. Bradley was a young man only 23 years old, and leaves a wife and only child. The father and wife of the unfortunate young man started next morning for Avon, with the intention of bringing the body to this place for interment. Upon arriving there they changed their mind, and the remains were laid away among strangers. Mr. Bradley's theory is that his son was murdered, and the body placed on the road to cover up the tracks of the bloody deed. Facts and cicamstances have come to light which give plasability to this theory. It is known that John was engaged in a fight, a pool of blood was found in the depot, cries were heard, and no engineer or trainman has any knowledge of running over a body. He was terribly mangled, his head and one of his arms being completely severed, the arm being found a mile from where he was lying."
