Grife passed away on October 12, 1997. He was born on May 24, 1914 in Barnes City, Iowa. He moved to Minnesota in 1920 and attended the Barnes School on Leach River. He went to work as an independent logger and operated a sawmill in the early 1960s. He worked for the Minnesota Department of game and Fish and then went to work at the Dunube Mines, retiring in 1973. He is survived by four sons, Jack of Florida, Kurt of Avilla Beach, CA and Cliff and Lee, both of Deer River; two brothers, Dale and Kenneth, both of Deer River; a sister, Velma of Florida; 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Preceding his in death were his wife, Edith; a brother, Floyd; two sisters, Clara and vera, his parents, John and Luella Grife, and his first wife Lucille Hemphill. Private family services will be hald at a later date. Arrangements by Carroll Funeral Home, Deer River.
