If I remember correctly, Mesabi was in the area of what is now Virginia, MN.

I don't know if you got an answer or not. Mining in Northern MN covers the area from Colerain (a few miles out of Grand Rapids) all across the area over to Chisholm and belong. It is called the Mesabi Iron Range.
