I don't know if you got an answer or not. Mining in Northern MN covers the area from Colerain (a few miles out of Grand Rapids) all across the area over to Chisholm and belong. It is called the Mesabi Iron Range. She died Tuesday, Feb 14, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Duluth, MN. Born Dec. 28, 1915 in Rugby, ND, she moved to Itasca County as a child. She was a graduate of Greenway High School in Coleraine. In 1943 she married Glen Grife in Grand Rapids. In 1945, they moved to the family farm near Ball Club. She was a charter member of North Grange Hall and served several years as grand master. She was a chaperone for the Deer River Parent Teachers Association, an eight-year member of the Deer River School Board serving two years as chairperson, and a member of the Cass County Nursing Services Board, and the Mississippi Headwaters Advisory Board. Preceded in death by a son Paul Toumala and her parents Earl and Ruth Lange; she is survived by her husband Glen; four sons Jack from Florida, Kurt from Avilla Beach, CA, and Cliff and Lee, both of Deer River; one brother, Erling “Bud” Lange of Grand Rapids; one sister, Dorothy Marsh of Mena, AR; 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving in Europe with the 66th Armored Infantry and was awarded the Purple Heart. He worked several years for Itasca Tire in Grand Rapids and was co-owner and operator of Itasca TV and Appliance for many years. He also worked for Dairyland Electric in Grand Rapids, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Grand Rapids. Preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Earl Lange, two sisters, Edith Grife and Ruth Adamson, and a brother, Paul Lange; he is survived by a daughter, Suzanne Cunningham, Grand Rapids: a son, Keith D. Lange, Grand Rapids; a sister, Dorothy Marsh, Mena, AR, and two grandchildren, Stacey Lange, Proctor and Eric Lange, Grand Rapids. Memorials and preferred to the American Heart Association.
