The Niska family has a big cellebration, news letter, etc. My brother-in-law has attended some. I think most of Squall Lake are related somehow. Kastner Funeral services for Robert M. Kastner, 52, Grand Rapids, were held today (Monday) at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Grand Rapids, with the Rev. Gary G. Cumings officiating. Interment was at the veteran's section of the Itasca Cemetery, Grand Rapids. Visitation was at the Rowe Funeral home Sunday, Feb. 12. He was born Dec 22, 1924 in Waterville, and was raised and attended schools at Waseca. He served with the U.S. Army 311th Infantry, 78th Division during WWII which served in the European theater. He saw service and action in the Ardens and Battle of the Bulge and other areas. After separation from the service in 1946, Mr., Kastner attended the University of Minnesota and graduated with a bachelor of physics degree in 1950. He and his family came to Grand Rapids in 1958 from Neenah, Wisc. He married Carolyn E. Hawkes at Waseca in 1949. Mrs. Kastner is presently serving on the Grand Rapids city Council. Mr. Kastner died at Itasca Memorial hospital Feb. 9. Survivors include his wife Carolyn, and one daughter, Kristine Kastner, Grand Marais, and one son, Rex, Storm Lake Iowa. One brother, Rex Kastner, Waseca, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Kastner, Waseca, also survive. 2006-2007 Telephone directory lists a Rex Kastner at 32526 Co Road 326 Bovey, MN 55709 218-326-3384
