I've needed obits from Des Moines IA before. Ended up paying a lady to get them for me. I thought it was worth the $2 or 3 to $5 a piece to get the information. I certainly couldn't get there myself with the cost of gas. Don't think she made too much money on it either considering she had to drive to the library/archives to look it up for me, or the time she spent on my behalf. If I had paid her what she was worth I suppose most obits would have cost me $20 or more each. A few libraries across the U.S., the small local ones that have a reference librarian and newspapers on microfilm, have also looked up obits for me and only charged me the cost of the paper and postage. That might be an option for you if you don't hear from a volunteer. I live in Texas so it's hard for me to do all the research I want to do in Iowa, SD, MN, IL and IN. I try to find living relatives, too, and www.zabasearch.com has been a good tool to find some. The best to you in your research, Teresa ----- Original Message ----- From: "Roy Meyer" <roy@royden.net> To: <MNHENNEP@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, May 06, 2007 11:10 AM Subject: [MNHennep] SCHMID in St. Paul area > At least two of my grandmother's cousins lived in the St. Paul area and > I've > been trying for several years to make contact with that branch of my > family. > I've found their death dates and am hoping someone could get me obits (or > at > least the "survived by" info from them) to increase my chances of finding > cousins in the Twin Cities area.
