    3. Hello list, Have several questions that perhaps someone can clarify, and/ or offer some guidance. My names of interest are James MacLeod b. abt 1870, d. 7/15/1912 in Hennepin Co. He was an architect and had lived at 485 Summit Ave, a house which he drafted and resided in. Does this home still exist? Where is St. Paul Co.? Other names are Rudolph Schiffman b. 8/1845 d. 12/1926. He supposedly lived at 495 Summit Ave from about 1893 until the early 1900's. Does this home still exist? Rudolph Schiffman was a medicine manufacturer with a plant supposedly at 369 Jackson St. Would these buildings still stand today? Story has it that he moved his medicine manufacturing to California and Berlin in the early 1900's. Anyone with any knowledge of either the MacLeod's or Schiffman's- I would greatly appreciate in hearing from you. Additionally, anyone that can provide knowledge of these areas would be helpful also. Thanks in advance, Kenny Schmid in KY http://schmidgenealogy.homestead.com/Schmid.html "Connecting Great Relatives-1 Person at a time" > All outbound mail is virus scanned for your protection

    3. Chances are good that the Summit Ave homes still exist. Those are remarkable homes that cost a pretty penny and they were built on a hill or "cliff" overlooking St Paul. I doubt too many of those have been torn down over the years. I don't know about the Jackson St building though. You might want to try the Photo and Art Archives from the MN History Center. Maybe you can find something interest on MacLeod or Summit Ave there. http://collections.mnhs.org/visualresources/search.cfm?bhcp=1 Kathy www.Kiva.org - loans that change lives. 3. Here's a photo and a short write up: http://www.historichomesofminnesota.com/ Built in 1881 by Cyrus B. Thurston, this home stands out on a beautiful corner lot and is one of the only homes on the avenue with an original date panel built into one of the gables. Originally the home was painted white and had a beautiful full facade front porch that slightly wrapped around the western corner of the home. You can easily see the original outline of the roof, around the only remaining portion of the porch. The architectural design of the home is Victorian Queen Anne and was the first built on the Avenue in this style. Common elements that the home has with other Queen Anne homes are the numerous gables, dormers, and high pitched roof. The home also has bay windows and porches that break up the surface of the walls, giving the home a unique feel that only a Queen Anne can give. Unfortunately the architect of the home is unknown. The home boasts approximately 5200 finished square feet, has two stories + finished attic space, 4 bedrooms and 4.5 baths, and sits on a little less than half an acre. Hope that helps, Kathy www.Kiva.org - loans that change lives.
