If he legally changed his name then the NARA would probaly have records under that name - and I gather you don't have it. He may not have received a pension for his service in WWI if he wasn't injured. Would there be probate records for his parents and/or siblings that might have listed him? Did he have a wife? Children? This is a real off the wall - but did you try doing a SSDI search using his birthdate and first name (which is probably John or Tom or Bill - LOL)? If you could narrow it down to a handful of people in the states where you think he probably lived/died then you might be able to go from there. Same with the Minnesota Death Index. Although you said he might have died in Milwaukee. They don't have a similar database. Good luck Jo
