Just and FYI to anyone interested in getting a subscription to ProQuest/Heritage Quest. This, I think, is a VERY REASONABLE price--$35.00 for a year subscription. Offered by the Godfrey Memorial Library in Middletown CT. I especially like having the 1870 and 1910 census WITH THE indexes!! Also, the scanned books are great! If you've never heard of ProQuest/Heritage Quest, here is what it offers: ProQuest's HeritageQuest Online & the African American Biographical Database Access nearly 9,000 family histories, every word searchable, more than 11,000 local histories, also every word searchable, the entire U.S. census except 1900, the U.S. census indexes from 1790 through 1820, 1860, 1870,1890, 1910 and 1920 (15 states), and the African American Biographical Database. Guidance from HeritageQuest Online on searching books and searching the census. (Note: These are pdf files and require Adobe Acrobat to download.) The New York Times (1852-1999, full text, every word searchable) is also available to Godfrey Scholars for use in the library only. Here is the link http://www.godfrey.org/ Happy Hunting! Our library subscribe to Heritage Quest and we can go online with the library and enjoy all the offerings of Heritage Quest. Great Site, easier to read the census too.
