    1. Re: [MNHENNEP] Where to look for missing brother

    3. Hi John, I find Donna's story interesting, in that we have a similar situation in our own family. My aunt had a baby when she was 15 yrs old and was told the baby died. My mother was about 11 years old then, but remembered when it happened so I have an approx. year for this baby's birth/death too, (1933) but no birth or death record appears. So, we're fairly sure my aunt was lied to and the baby given up for adoption. Doctor Merkert was our family doctor too , I remember him well. His office was on Franklin and Chicago Ave. and I lived just a few blocks away from Deaconess Hosp. My daughter works in the medical insurance field and I've asked her to see if she can find out what happened to the records for Deaconess Hosp. as a possibility Donna's brother was born there. However, there's a better chance he was born at Minneapolis General Hosp., now Hennepin County Medical Center. I believe that's where my aunt delivered her baby too. My aunt's baby was born about 1933 though. My daughter thinks Deaconess Hosp. is now used as an Adult Drug and Alcohol treatment facility, but is going to look into it. I have a 1955 Minneapolis City Directory and found Don A. Buchanan listed, address was 1206 Humboldt Ave N. This doesn't help at all I suppose, but the grandmother's name was not listed. If my daughter can find any information on the hosp. I'll let you know. There's a good chance Donna's brother was adopted out and the records are sealed in Hennepin County. I'd like to find out what became of my aunt's baby too, since he/she has a brother who would also like to know. I haven't really pursued it much, except for trying to find a birth or death record.
