Someone asked about Witt's Market in Minneapolis a while ago. I just found an article written in the Spring 1963 issue of the Hennepin County History magazine on Witt's Market. A nice article, and includes two photos. One of Alvin Witt and his nephew Bill. Also a photo of the front of the store taken in 1945 showing a crowd of people. The caption says " They lined up early the day Witt's held its great Buffalo sale". I'll be happy to copy and send if that person is still interested in it. I have no idea what county it is in. The area is beautiful and a very popular place for summertime fun, and a gorgeous fall drive. You should be able to find information on the area and the Chamber of Commerce by using a search engine. I am not familiar with the area called Devils Punch Bowl and Oven but the area is full of rock formations on the river. The CoC should be able to help. Jo

Hello, sorry, bur I have only found one PARSAU. It is situated in North Germany, north of the hills called "HARZ", or some miles north of the city of WOLFSBURG (the city where the car named "VW" is build). The ZIP-code is 38470. It seems to be a small village with about 2000 people. Nothing found in Pommern, perhaps another name which sounds like this one? Best wishes from North Germany! Some times small children were buried on the same grave site, but one on one end, and another on the other end, but never have heard of three in one. But I know of 3 or 4 on a headstone, and would be tightly put together side by side and end to end. And some times if they were removed from another cemetery, all they would find of the remains would be a few bones and they would gather up a little dirt with it and remove to a new location, which would explain why 3 in one gravesite. Hello, listers-- My great-grandparents were Catholic, but I now believe that my gr-gr-grandparents who came from Germany & settled in NE Mpls. may have been "Evangelisch" which I guess would be Lutheran. My gr-gr-grandfather Nicholas Hohler sold "provisions & groceries" on Rollins St. according to the 1859-60 St. Anthony city directory. Can anyone tell me what Lutheran churches were in existence in St. Anthony in the 1850s & which might be the nearest to Rollins St.? Is it likely a Lutheran church at that time would have records on these folks? Thanks for any help. Marilyn

Possibly, the babies were buried in the same plot because the families did not have money to buy a separate plot?? If the babies were buried in the same plot, they may have been moved from another location and the family saved money by burying them in one plot. Here in Minnesota it is normal practice to bury one person per grave. I recall my shock when in 1984 my aunt died in Florida and was buried in a VERY deep grave to allow for her husband to be buried in the same grave and still have them be a suitable distance underground. The shock was increased when in fact my uncle died just 3 days later (a broken heart) and so was buried in the same grave 5 days after we buried his wife.Opening that grave again seemed weird to me, but I gather it is common practice as cemetery ground is at a premium there. As to the 11 years time gap. Was any other member of the family buried at that same time? Maybe they decided to move all the family to be close together in one cemetery when another person died. Sometimes it was a matter of where the family lived or a convenient grave site at the time. And later they wanted to "reunite" the family. I wonder if Crystal Lake can shed any light on that. They really are good people to deal with. Jo Hogle
Hi Jodi - you're right - I'm thinking the year I asked for is wrong. I am looking for J. Otto Jellison. I saw the picture you're referring too, but didn't know how it would've been connected. He's in it? I'll have to look for that info again. Thank you! Hello Wolfgang, Thank you ever so much for your very kind help. It is much appreciated. Good luck in your search. I am sorry I cannot help you. Marge Perry
Alicia, There was no listing for anyone by the name of JELLISON in the 1925 Minneapolis Telephone Book. In the 1946 Minneapolis City Directory these are the listings: JELLISON - -Gaylord W. USA r.1814 Hillside av -Hattie L. (wid WM) h.1814 Hillside av -J. Otto (Blanch) voice tchr 1216 Nicollet av R202 h.3853 Aldrich av S As a side note, one of the other tenants in room 202 in the 1216 Nicollet ave building was the Communist Political Assn. I did a quick search at the Minneapolis Photo Collection from the Mpls Library site and found one photo that lists J. Otto Jellison as being in the photo from 1949. http://www.mpls.lib.mn.us/dbtw-wpd/exec/dbtwpub.dll http://www.mpls.lib.mn.us/dbtw-wpd/phosrc.htm Hard to say if this the guy you are looking for, but it looks like there may be some connection... Iris, It's sounds as though your grandfather was definitely moved from another cemetery. I would have thought there would be a notation on the lot card and the girl at the cemetery might have had this information. I'm not sure if the death record would have a note on this? Their obituary, if they had one, might list the original cemetery. I know some of my husband's family were moved from Pioneers & Soldiers (Layman's Cemetery) to Lakewood, but there was a note at Lakewood giving the date and place they were removed from. I'm glad I was able to help otherwise. Maybe someone else on the list has insight on this as well. Hi Claudia, Henneman Family Thnak you so much for your advise about contacting the cemeteries. I had found that both of my uncles were buried at Crystal Lake Cemeterey so I took a chance and called them. The nicest young lady(everyone is younger than me) give me so much information on more than just my grandparents. I found another uncle and his wife and cousins and 2nd cousins. but one thing that I found very strange is that my granma and grandpa and several babies are all buried in the same grave. My grandpa died in 1909 and was buried in 1920? Wonder where he was in between? ? The only thing I can come up with is that he must have been in a cemetery that closed and the remains were moved. The same with these babies and there are 3 babies in the same grave. I don't believe they are my grandparents children but think they are grandbabies. What fun I'm having, finding all these info. and it's thanks to you. Iris --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Roxanne, Robert Camp is not listed in the 1946 Minneapolis City Directory. He is also not listed in the 1960 Minneapolis Telephone book. He shows up in the 1964 Minneapolis telephone book. His address is 1513 NE Grand St. I also have a Minneapolis City Directory from 1965: Robert N. Camp is listed as "lino opr, Mpls Star Tribune" 1968: He is listed as "prntr Mpls Star Tribune" 1970: He is listed as "prntr" His address is consistently at 1513 NE Grand St. His wife never appears with his listings or by herself. good luck in your search, jodi in mpls On Thursday, Oct 23, 2003, at 16:00 US/Central, [email protected] wrote: > From: "Roxanne" <[email protected]> > Date: Thu Oct 23, 2003 10:51:20 US/Central > To: [email protected] > Subject: Re: [MNHENNEP] Minneapolis Tribune > > > Claudia, > > I dont know what years Robert Camp worked for the Star Tribune, I > just > got a death certificate and it said that he was a Linotype for the > Trubune. > I was wondering if the tribune had archives that I could see if there > was > anything about Robert. Can someone look up the address for me from one of the city directories? My Aunt worked there in the late 20's/early 30's. I believe it was a recording studio. I queried a year ago with no luck, but if anyone knows of any information on this or Mr. Jellison himself, I'd appreciate it. Thanks, Alicia
