It has been brought to my attention that I would need to add the city and newspaper to my request. I believe the city would be Minneapolis. But, if there were more than one local paper for that city in 1918, I would be at a loss to guess which one would more likely have wedding announcement write ups in their social pages. Perhaps someone out there would have a suggestion. Earl was a Baptist minister and teacher at a religious college. Thanks again. Leemae Subject: Newspaper marriage lookup Hello, I am new to this list. Tom You might also keep in mind that at that early time in MN history not everyone was buried in a cemetery. My family history includes the burial of my ggggrandmother in "the woods in St Anthony" in 1857 and her husband buried on the family property in 1860. They attempted to locate Deborah's grave to bury her husband next to her but it was impossible so they were buried separately. No record of either - just family history. Jo Hogle

This sounds like a wonderful project, but like Mary, I'm not volunteering either. However, I do want to let everyone know how handy it is to have the 1910 census maps she has mentioned (as well as the one for the 1930 census, if working with that year.) Mary is an "expert" on this subject and I agree that having the right map helps anyone trying to make head or tails of the ED's, streets, etc. For those of you who are interested in learning more about the complicated 1910 Minneapolis census situation, her publication will give you the help you need. Start at <www.parkbooks.com> or refer to the specific address in her previous message. I have no affiliation with Park Books, but have used many of their publications over the years and can recommend any one or all. Keep up the good work, Mary. And it doesn't really come as any surprise that one agency (Census Bureau) used one map and another agency (the City) used another...... Karen B. Whitmer
Thx Claudia. I am really looking forward to the Layman's transcriptions online. I am hoping to find other "lost" relatives there. I did check Lakewood online and the St. Mary's stuff online with no luck there. Haven't called ST. Mary's yet. >X-Message: #9 >Date: Tue, 9 Dec 2003 08:47:01 -0600 >From: "Claudia Schuman" <[email protected]> >To: [email protected] >Message-ID: <[email protected]> >Subject: Re: [MNHENNEP] Looking for 2 burial in St. Anthony 1858 and >between 1870/80 >Content-Type: text/plain; > charset="iso-8859-1" >Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit > >Tom, > >You could try Lakewood Cemetery records online www.lakewoodcemetery.com and >St. Mary's has some older records online listed on the Hennepin site under >"cemeteries". I see that you're having trouble with Minneapolis 1910 Federal Census. First off, you should know that I'm not volunteering for anything! The 1910 Minneapolis census is a very interesting one, because there are a bunch of problems over and above the ordinal directions and numbered streets/avenues. The most interesting one is that the map that the Census Bureau used to actually mark the EDs had different Ward and Precinct boundaries on it than did the map that the City used as its official map (in fact, there were more Wards and Precincts on it than were used for elections). When one then tries to use an 'official map' to trace the ED boundaries which correspond with wards, precincts, and street names, one can become VERY confused. In 2001, as part of our census aids project for MN and WI, we were able to locate and publish the boundaries, as they were on the census map itself for 1910. It's a booklet, with a street guide, maps of the city and each individual ward, and the EDs marked. We had done the same thing for St. Paul several years before, and also did Duluth. We've published ED maps for 1930 for those cities, plus Winona and St. Cloud MN (which is in 3 counties) and Milwaukee and Madison, WI. There ARE other resources to solve your problem, and extensive knowledge of the streets of the City of Minneapolis isn't vital-- my publication should provide the info needed! http://www.parkbooks.com/web_store.cgi?page=outlet_frontpage_db.html&cart_id=2341952_4718&keywords=Minneapolis&search_request_button=Search (all one line) Remarkable how having the right map helps! Tom, You could try Lakewood Cemetery records online www.lakewoodcemetery.com and St. Mary's has some older records online listed on the Hennepin site under "cemeteries". You also might want to check some of the other cemeteries listed there. The records for Layman's Cemetery - Pioneers and Soldier's Cemetery in Minneapolis will soon have the transcriptions online, but they can be contacted at the number showing on the Hennepin site. I am looking for a Mary Preisen born 26 July 1844 Germany. The family immigrated in 1855 and appears on the 1860 census in St. Anthony. She is on the ship with the family. I don't know if she died before arriving in Minnesota or not. She does not appear to be buried at St. Anthony cemtery with the rest of the family.
