    1. Re: [MNHEN] a question of marriage application filing
    2. Melodee, Marriages can be tough to find without a broad index base. My grandfather lived in Kandiyohi Co, and my grandmother in Swift Co. at the time of their marriage in 1898. They applied for, and were granted, the marriage certificate in Kandiyohi (seems to be more common to take place in the wife's home county), but they were married in Chippewa County. I believe there are some where license was granted in MN and the actual ceremony took place outside the state. Have you found obits for your individuals? Sometimes they give the place of the marriage. Many will be hard to trace because they took a trip to Cuba, Las Vegas, or other destinations far from home to get married, and may have only been there for that one trip of which there is not likely to be a significant record. With only a 3-4 day waiting period, this was not difficult to do. I have a friend and spouse, both lifelong residents of this state, who went to Hawaii to get married. I do not know whether their license was granted here or there. The "gossip" pages that existed in may old newspapers of that vintage sometimes had marriage announcements (easier to locate, and more likely, in a small village vs. a large city like Minneapolis). We were able to track, and ultimately find births and deaths in the family in remote counties and other states by looking in these old newspapers - it is tedious, however. I know this may not answer your questions, but may cause you to start "looking outside the Minneapolis box." I would begin by checking nearby counties such as Ramsey and Dakota. My parents were married in another county about 100 mi. away from where they lived prior to the marriage, by a nephew pastor, so yours could have been married at or near the residence of other family members. Good luck, Doug In a message dated 05-Jan-06 5:54:22 Pacific Standard Time, Melnsam123@aol.com writes: Hello List- I am trying to locate the marriage of My great grandmother Pearl Hidley and Alex B Butler. I also am wondering about her sister my GG-Aunt, She was to my thinking a resident of Minneapolis in 1908 and I would like to believe Albion D Aenold was to, Would she have to apply still in Hennepen county?? I still am having a hard time finding their marriages. If they were in Minneapolis( Hennepen County) would it be correct to say that their marriage records be on file at Hennepen County?? Does Hennepen county hold a marriage index for 1904/1905 and 1908 and could someone check and see if Pearl Hidley and Alex Butler( 1905) and Ruby Young( could have gone also by Harriet May Young) and Albion D Arnold were indexed as filing in 1908?? I so much wish to locate these marriages. Thankyou. Melodee Slaney

    3. I've "rescued" another BIBBINS Family photograph which is certainly related to the earlier group of 6 photographs. This is a photograph of Melvin, Helen, and Aletha BIBBINS. The photograph was taken at Christmas time in 1891 and given to "Uncle Julius & Aunt Vera". The three children pictured in the photograph look to be from about 3-11 years old at the time the photograph was taken. Along with this photograph I also received photographs belonging to the CRAINE and BUSH Families, though I don't know what the specific relationship between all of them might be, just know that handwritten notations on all were made by the same hand. If you are a member of this family, or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    3. It is my hope it was meant as a joke. I just found another family record at the BLM site which has reopened. If you find something be sure to save it, the site is known to go on and off as a result of continuing litigation. I just accessed the Bureau of Land Management website and was able to go to the land patent page at http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/ Elaine A good book is the purest essence of the human soul. --Thomas Carlyle Hello Irma On Tuesday, December 27, 2005, you wrote > I am sorry but am I missing some thing here? > What is this about a loser!!?? > Irma
