Good morning, I am the volunteer for Hennepin County city directory look-ups for this rootsweb site. Let me know what you are looking for and I will look when I go to the Minnesota History Center (Fridays). I don't remember exactly what directories the history center has but it is very comprehensive. My first enquiry about the couple below received an underwhelming response so I thought I'd ask for some general advice on how and where to proceed in trying to track them down. Norman, I have a lot of Punt information I have found for you including Civil War service, WWI registration, death information, census information, all on your Punt family and some of their descendants. Well Mate it appears you live far away, perhaps - and you could explain a bit more and do some computer work. Regardless, save time and call/write Punts in Minneapolis area to find more on dead ones here on Minnesota Historical Society Web site (death index) and ancestor who was a blacksmith in St. Peter, MN in 1870. You are welcome and owe thanks to some border collies here about whose relatives abound in Kiwi land. Happy Historical Trails, Robert P. Mosedale Bloodhound Research, P. A. rmosedale@juno.com
Norman, do you have the US censuses for the Punt family already? If not, I'll be happy to try to find them for you, as I have a subscription to Ancestry.com's censuses. If you do that, you might also ask that they check their From my own experience researching in that library, I allow 10 minutes per name to locate the directory, look up the page, and make a copy. The Henn Co HS has an almost complete set of Minneapolis city directories and phone books. Many of these are originals and fragile and that adds to lookup time. They are very kind - and they can use any donations sent their way. FYI, Shawne FitzGerald > >
Kathy asked: Can anyone tell me if there are city directories for Minneapolis anywhere??? I am looking for the time frame of 1919-1923/24. _____ The Minnesota Genealogical Society has many directories in hard copy. The catalog is available online at mngs.org. (The years are somewhat scattered. I see 1920 listed.) The Minnesota Historical Society has most years, on microfilm. Check mnhs.org for the catalog. Each has volunteers who will do lookups in exchange for a donation. (Budgets are tight.) Mary MGS volunteer
Here' are two extracts from the LDS's website. If anybody has any more information on this couple and their families please let me know. Can anyone tell me if there is a volunteer who will look up an obituary in a Minneapolis newspaper? I am looking for the obituary for Malva C. LOCKWOOD, who died there, 06 Jun. 1947. Thank you. Kathy Campbell Jacksonville, FL
I've "rescued" an old photograph of Clarence BUSH which was taken at the Miller Studio in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's with Clarence only about 1 year old at the time. In addition to this photograph I also recovered photographs belonging to the CRAINE and BIBBINS Families from the same source. I have no idea how they are all connected, however, the handwritten notations on all of them are made by the same hand so I know that they are all connected in some manner. I'm hoping to locate someone from Clarence's family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to its rightful place with family. If you are a member of this family, or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley
Our new research note for February describes a growing collection of on-line maps and atlases for Minnesota, including the original plat maps drawn by the surveyors for the Government Land Office of the Bureau of Land Management from the 1840s on. These plats show the physical geography of the state before Minnesota became a Territory in 1849. The collection also includes on-line access to the Andreas Atlas of 1874 plus several other landowner atlases. All the maps are in color. (The Andreas was one of the first to have colored in a statewide atlas.) Jeanette - It was a great program. I'd seen the host of it interviewed by Charlie Rose the other night. Otherwise I would have never known about it. The DNA part of it is amazing!
