Is there anyone that does Obit Look-ups? I need an Obit for Helen J. Turnquist, died Oct 22, 1970 and buried Crystal Lake Cemetery, Minneapolis on 26 Oct 1970. I really need to break down this 'Brick Wall' on my wife's family and I think this Obit might provide the need clue. Thanks, Pat Patterson, Southaven, MS

Hi Susan, Thank you so much for the information. I would love to have obituaries if you could find them. You mentioned that you would be interested in more information on this family. It gets a little complicated because of 2nd marriages, but I will send what I have. I think the Saville's and maybe Baxter's who are connected to the Broadbent's are also in this cemetery and maybe the same plot, but I will start with the immediate Broadbent connection and I can send more of the Saville and Baxter information later. John Broadbent was b. abt 1820, England, d. May 18, 1874, Mpls. He married Mrs. Mary (Jackson) Robinson bef. 1845, England. (His only marriage.) Mary (Jackson Robinson) Broadbent was b. abt 1808, England d. Aug 14, 1880, and was first married Jan 22, 1825 Glossup, Derbyshire, England to William Robinson who may have died in England bef. 1844. Ann J. Broadbent b. abt 1845, England d. Jan 13, 1882, was the dau. of John and Mary (Jackson Robinson) Broadbent. R. H. Broadbent who was mentioned in the cemetery records is Robert H. Broadbent, the only other known child of John and Mary (Jackson Robinson) Broadbent. He was b. July 16, 1848, Palmer / Thorndike, Hampden Co., MA, d. May 22, 1920, Minneapolis, Hennepin, MN is buried at Lakewood Cemetery in Mpls. - His death cert says he was b. in Thorndike. (Thorndike and Palmer are connecting towns.) Charles Broadbent b. abt 1880, MN, d. Apr 22, 1898, was the son of the above Robert H. Broadbent and Elizabeth Richardson. Elizabeth was b. Jan 03, 1853, Indiana, d. Dec 28, 1932, Mpls., buried at Lakewood Cemetery. (He has more siblings if you would like to have them.) Mary (Jackson Robinson) Broadbent is my direct line from her 1st marriage to William Robinson. Children of Mary and William Robinson: (mentioned above) John Robinson bpt. Dec 19, 1825, Glossop, Derbyshire, England Thomas Robinson, bpt. June 02, 1828, Glossop, Derbyshire, England William Robinson, bpt. Sep 06, 1831, Glossop, Derbyshire, England George or Sebrge Robinson, abt. 1835, Glossop, Derbyshire, England Grace Robinson, bpt. July 21, 1835, d. Oct 12, 1895, Minneapolis, Hennepin Co., MN m. Benjamin Baxter (Grace Robinson was first married to James Saville. Their only surviving child was Charles Saville, b. July 22, 1853 Millbury, Worcester Co., MA d. Aug 07, 1905, Mpls. I think they are both buried in Minneapolis Pioneers and Soldiers Cemetery, too. She would be Grace Baxter at her death.) Levi Robinson, bpt. Nov 09, 1837, Glossop, Derbyshire, England Robert Robinson, bpt. Jan 16, 1840, Glossop, Derbyshire, England Thanks again, for all you help! http://news.com.com/Historic+passenger+lists+of+ships+go+online/2100-1047_3-6148931.html?tag=cd.top People looking to track ancestors who emigrated from British ports will be able to search online passenger lists of the ships that carried them to new lands. Released on Wednesday by Britain's National Archives, the passenger manifests give an insight into all long-distance trips made by 30 million travelers from the country's ports between 1890 and 1960, including that of the Titanic which sank in 1912. "We hope the digitization will open up a hugely valuable resource for genealogists and social historians all over the world," said Dan Jones, National Archives' head of business development. The records, available via commercial Web site findmypast.com, which was licensed by The National Archives, also show the passages of trans-European migrants. Many were Jews fleeing persecution, who began their journeys in continental Europe and traveled to British ports like Southampton and Liverpool to catch cheap sailings. During this period, thousands of Britons were propelled by economic reasons to seek new beginnings abroad. Between 1890 and 1914 an estimated 125,000 Britons emigrated every year to the United States, with 50,000 going to Canada and 25,000 to Australia. Trips to all continents are covered with sailings to South America, the Caribbean, West Africa and all parts of Asia. Initially only the period from 1890-1900 will be available but subsequent decades will be put online over the next few months. The lists provide an intriguing glimpse of individual voyages. What, for example, did 40-year-old Glaswegian spinster dairy maid Elizabeth Barr make of New Zealand when she arrived in 1923 on the steamship Remuera? Did she perhaps strike up an onboard friendship with John Woodrow, 21, a rabbit-catcher from Warwickshire? Or did she build a new life with another fellow passenger, 33-year-old London fireman Rufus Workman? Although the passenger lists have been available at the archives' offices in Kew, southwest London, for some time they are indexed by port of departure only and not name, making it difficult to find a particular individual. The passenger lists, which are presented online in their original form, vary. Some are typed, others are handwritten. Some record tantalizingly little detail while others give occupations, addresses and ultimate destinations overseas. Story Copyright © 2007 Reuters Limited. All rights reserved.
Found on the 1930 Hennepin County, Minneapolis, MN census is Fred L. Fox, 49 years old, wife Mary A. also 49. Living with them is Fred's Aunt, Jennie E. Bohmbach (Emma Jane Bohmbach). I'm interested in locating relatives of Fred who might know something about Jennie E. Bohmbach, who had no children, and who died in Gibbons, MN in 1946. Jennie was married to Fred R. Bohmbach who died 1922 in Montana, where he and Jennie were living in Great Falls on the 1920 Census. He is buried in Warm Springs, MT; she in Lakewood Cemetery, Minneapolis. His Death Certificate does not give any spouse, but his hospital record lists H. Josephine Bohmbach as the spouse. I'm trying to verify that I have the right Fred married to the correct wife. Thanks. I've "rescued" two old photographs belonging to the VOGEL Family of Minnesota. The first is a photograph of Mary and Julia VOGEL which was taken at the Miller Studio in Minneapolis, MN. The photograph appears to have been taken in the early 1900's with the two women looking to be in their teens and 20's. In addition to their names, someone has written "Hattie BENSON's sisters" on the back of the photograph. The second photograph is identified as Mark VOGEL & Family. This photograph has not studio or location indicated and is an outdoor photograph. The family includes an older couple, likely in their 50's along with a younger couple looking to be in their 20's, and two small children. The older of the two children appears to be a girl about 5 years old, the younger a boy about 4 years old. I was able with limited research to find census information which may relate to these VOGEL women: 1900 census of Fort Snelling, MN: Julia VOGEL, age 23, a servant in the Edward JONES Household, born Dec 1876, born MN, parents born Germany, a Cook 1910 census of Minneapolis, MN: Hattie VOGEL, age 26, a companion in the home of James & Lizzie MCDONALD, born MN, parents born Germany I've no idea how the people in the photographs are connected, but they were recovered together so I am certain there is some type of connection. I am hoping to be able to return the photographs to family and would appreciate your contacting me if you are related or know someone who might be. Thanks, Shelley

Hi Jackie I thought that I would let you know that when i looked at the draft card it had obviously been filled in after the divorce as care of two children were cited as being a reason for not going to War. It is possible that divorce was granted to gertrude on these grounds and she got to care for them anyway. (Apparantly he had been reluctant to divorce her and she had tried to murder him) He obviously survived the attempt as the 1948 death record is his. :-) Kind Regards Melinda > Message: 3 > Date: Sun, 3 Dec 2006 19:41:51 -0800 > From: "Jackie Ginn" <bluelaker4@cox.net> > Subject: Re: [MNHennep] Desperately seeking help on locating > information on my grandmother (with focus on death record). > To: <mnhennep@rootsweb.com> > Message-ID: <009a01c71756$22ae8f00$8ef56f4b@Dell> > Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset="iso-8859-1"; > reply-type=original > > There is a WWI Registration card for William A Kohler at Ancestry. Hi Robert me again. It has just struck me that there is a possibility that Ruth A born 1904 could have a connection in that she could be a sister that I have not known about. Gertrude married very young in that she had my father at sixteen. It is possible that Ruth also did and that is why I have not picked her up on the census records. However having said that i do have a copy of the 1910 census record and she is not on it. I have wondered whether it was the grandmother gertrude who remarried on a number of ocassions. I do know that she had the name thompson in the 1920 and 1930 census. However she was head of the house in 1930. Why Ruth A would carry the name Kohler is a mystery though if she was a sister of Gertrude. I guess I will have to order the record and look at it.
