Heritage Quest has advantages and disadvantages over census databases at Ancestry.com. Heritage Quest is not an every name index; it is a head of household index. Single individuals living as boarders or roomers are indexed as heads of households. So the disadvantage is the need to know head of household. I think an advantage is that a Heritage Quest search produces fewer and more specific results. I also like the Advanced Search format at Heritage Quest. Many of us have problems with names being spelled in a variety of ways. When I was looking for Fitzgeralds in a couple of Ohio counties, I just entered only the census year - say 1860 - the county, and born in Ireland. The results list of all heads of households born in Ireland was in alphabetical order so Fitzgerald, Fittsgerald, Fitzchild were all grouped near each other. This really saved a lot of time (not to mention I hadn't even imagined Fitzgerald misspelled as Fitzchild.). The Heritage Quest book search includes some city directories for Minneapolis and St. Paul. I am a fan of these Heritage Quest databases - its great that the libraries have added them. 3. Donelly, The "b" stands for business The "com" stands for Compositor I'm not sure about the "Taibune". I thought maybe it was a typo in the directory and meant Tribune. Will see if I can find a business listing called Taibune......storm coming have to get off computer........more later. 3. Just an FYI If your local library subscribes to the Heritage Quest Databases, and most larger libraries do now, you can access the HQ databases at home through your local library using your library card no matter where you live. If you live in Hennepin County go to the main page of the Hennepin County Library website at http://www.hclib.org/pub/ and click on the link for "Databases A-Z". The databases are listed alphabetically, scroll down to HERITAGE QUEST, click on it and in the box just put in the bar code numbers on the back of your library card. If you don't have a library card....go get one!! Claudia Schuman Claudia Schuman

This isn't proof he's your relative, but the 1885 Census for Minnesota is available online on http://kinsource.com/index.htm for a small subscription fee and you might find his parents since he wasn't born until 1886. 3. That would be great. She is also listed as "Hattie" in another census. The daughter was born either in 1883 or 1886 in Minn., and she had a son, Laurence, born 22 Apr 1909 in Minneapolis...shows her husband as Joseph Butler. What are the chances of marrying someone with your own maiden name? What I can't find also, is the birth certificate for Laurence in 1909. I would like the page of all the Butlers from that Directory if you would be so kind.
