If you are in a hurry you might find a different way to get your information. I have been waiting months for Sandy to get back to me. We had initial contact but have not hear any more. Jan
Jan, I'm sorry to hear that. Sandy does have problems with her e-mail at times. Some times the e-mails get bounced because the server thinks they're spam. I know she was having lots of problems with that for a while and trying to get it corrected. Also, she does have some serious reoccurring medical problems that prevent her from getting to the history center, and from doing much of anything. So, if you haven't heard from her I'm sure there's a very good reason for it. People need to realize she does this on a volunteer basis and there might be a wait. The Historical Society does have the service available as well, so people can choose that option. I believe there is quite a wait for this too, and the cost might be a bit more. I don't want to step on anyone's toes, but I do those lookups too. Since I had heard Sandy was doing them, I didn't say anything previously. Details about death certs and other items are listed on my web site. Mary, You didn't mention (or maybe you haven't checked the Hennepin County Genweb site) that we have Sandy Louden, locally, who will get copies of the original death records at the History Center, and will lookup obituaries for others out of state. Her offer is on the Hennepin Genweb site at http://www.rootsweb.com/~mnhennep/ under LOOKUPS HERE button. Star, Welcome - I'm relatively new to the list, too, so I speak from my own experience & hope others will join in. You can obtain copies of the death certificates from the MN Historical Society - check out the death certificate index at their website: http://www.mn.hs.org After you find the death cert numbers you're looking for, you can visit their library to make your own copies at $.30 apiece, or order them online for a few $$. Once you have the death certs, you can see what city they lived in, and find the appropriate microfilm of a newspaper for obituaries or news articles - or your local library may have a newspaper on microfilm which may have carried an article regarding an accident or other circumstances. Since you have dates already, your library may be able to short-cut the process by ordering microfilm on interlibary loan. Hi, I have just joined the list. I'm hoping someone in Hennepin County can help me answer some questions regarding a virtual wiping out of a family. I have a William O. Storlie, b 1860, Mower County, d 17 Aug 1942, Hennepin County. His second wife, Carolyn nee Nelson, birthdate unknown, apparently died the same day. Their son, William Jr, died Jan 15, 1943, Hennepin County. If these dates are correct as given to me, I would like to find out the circumstances of these deaths. (William Sr was originally married to the daughter of my gg-uncle, Anna nee Aamot, who died in S Dakota in 1900.) Appreciate any info or suggestions on getting more info. My son has an amended birth certificate but he has two pieces of paper. The original birth certificate- his mother (me) and his doctor signed saying he was a female.(ooops) We never noticed it until he was in his late 20's and his girlfriend pointed it out. Now he has the original certificate and another piece of paper amending his sex. I thought they would change it on his original birth certificate. We did have to get several affidavits from family memebers stating he was always a male before we could get it changed. Gayle Payne
Susanne, I'm not totally sure, but the amended record could have been just a change-- correction, or addition of his name, or something missing from the record and there may not be anything more. This thing happened to me. When I was in my 30's I decided to get a copy of my birth certificate and discovered that it didn't have my name on it, just "Baby Girl" and my last name. So, had to have it amended and have a family member (my sister) sign an affidavit as to my real name. I don't know that there is any other paper work connected to my birth record now showing the change, other than the note at the bottom of my certificate. However, maybe someone else knows more about this procedure? Just received a birth record of my uncle, from Hennepin County Vital Statistics. Note at bottom: "Amended by State Registrar pursuant to affidavit filed on 11-17-(??) 42" I am not sure of the year, but this is what I think it is. How can I find this affidavit? Who to write to? How much does it cost? Susanne
My husband's grandmother's birth record from MA was amended. I have copies of each record. When she was born in early Jan of 1887, they mistakenly wrote the date and the year as 1886. Her mother later had it amended to the correct year of birth. The paperwork was filed with the city clerk and from there went to the state level. Hope this helps.
