    3. OK it does work! Open notepad and create a file with the word USGENWEB all caps and nothing else. save it as banner_select.txt upload to your public_html directory delete the .txt part in your directory so the file is named banner_select ta-dah no more search box, but you are still branded as being part of ancestry On Sunday, April 5, 2015 10:20 AM, Joy Fisher <[email protected]> wrote: ARRRGH Just tried adding that file and it does not work anymore On Sunday, April 5, 2015 10:09 AM, Genealogy via <[email protected]> wrote: Mike I could only find one county with the USGenWeb/Rootsweb banner.  It is Pine County.  I have never seen this one before.  It is part of the Rootsweb plug in code.  But they only apply a link to the Rootsweb image and the Ancestry image linking to both.  They do not add a link to the USGenWeb image. 3. That isn't a bad trade off though. I mean, we used to display "Hosted by Rootsweb" graphics or say thank you to them for the webspace. The banner eliminates the need to do that. 3. Call it sour grapes if you want, but I don't like people hacking my pages and placing ads on the pages without my permission. We are offered the Rootsweb space without a contract and without signing away the site rights for them to display ads. I did use a "Hosted by Rootsweb" image at the bottom of each page. Again, Rootsweb has always been a good organization, but they do what Ancestry wants them to do with their ads. I pprefer not to have a banner on my pages unless I place it there. I have already moved my site to "theusgenweb.org" and the Rootsweb site will disappear at the end of June, 2014. I also requested that the URL to the site be changed on the state page, but have not received a response yet.
