Dear MNGenWeb admins; Sometime this year, the old 462 x 92 lake scene logo image previously available thru this link: http://www.rootsweb.com/~mngenweb/images/mn5.gif was replaced by a 320 x 206 image of the new logo. When I designed my Crow Wing web pages back in 2005, I used the proper <img> width and height parameters to lay out the page. I followed the current advice and linked directly to the mn5.gif image at the mngenweb site. I see now that the direct link was a BIG mistake, because on all of the pages where I did that, there is a distorted logo. For example: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mncrowwi/surnames.html Why was this file replaced? What harm was there in keeping it? If anything, it should have been replaced with an image of the same dimensions so no distortion occurs for those pages using proper layout technique. For example, MNGenWebBanner462.png. John
John, I do not believe it was an intentional replacement. I think it was just an oversight. Other than linking to the main pages as required, I never link to graphics but rather download them and upload them to my site. I tweak them as needed. I do believe the banner you seek is the old mn5.gif that was redesigned and is now MNGenWeb401b.jpg which has the 462 x 92 parameters. You can download that and rename it to your hearts content. The old one in .gif format was 30.5 K while the new one in the same parameters is 13.5 K .jpg You will likely have to change the extension to .jpg since I'm not sure how well changing it from .jpg to .gif will render.
