    1. [MNGEN] SC Question
    2. Martha A Crosley Graham via
    3. Karen posed a question and I don't think I sent it to the List. My apologies. Here is my response: We recruited through the use of County Mail Lists and advertising on each of the available Counties. We reverted to the USGW policies and procedures after Richard S Wilson retired because the CC's all wanted a simple set of guidelines, especially with regard to the position of SC. Now, when a CC wants to step down, they let me know and I thank them and wish them good luck. We have had only one County actually abandoned since I became SC almost 10 years ago. We have a simple set of guidelines that everyone agrees with. These are posted on our index page so that anyone wishing to adopt a County can check them out. One of the things that keeps us on an even keel is the fact that, for the most part, the CC's all are pretty mellow and really just want to find goodies and work on their pages. They are not a contentious bunch and we all get along fairly well. I have rambled, but I appreciate the opportunity to fill you in on a little CAGW history. Oh, one last thing. I tried to get the CC's to set up an election last year and no one wanted to run. Either they are happy with me or just don't want to rock the 'Good Ship California' Martha

    2. Martha A Crosley Graham via
    3. Karen, Thank you for the question. Here in California we had a situation in which our State Coordinator became too ill to take care of business. We had a number of County hosts that were not happy with the 'state of affairs' and not only dropped out, but took the County files as well. So we lost a SC and a lot of CC's all within a few months. So, my experience in bringing the State back up to snuff was twofold: As an ASC then, as SC. It took us a good year or so before we had recruited a decent team of CC's who really cared about their Counties and who were willing to work with us. Martha

    2. Linda Ziemann via
    3. Linda ³Lin² Ziemann SC Candidate MNGebWeb Greetings to all, I appreciate your time and consideration during this upcoming election for SC of MNGenWeb. A few weeks back I signed on for Rock County MNGenWeb CC. I did so because I wanted to ³make a difference² with that county website. I am working at doing that‹and have already sparked an interest apparently in one fellow who is emailing with ³tidbits² of good history for the county! My Story‹As It GoesŠŠ. Family History has been Lin¹s hobby since young adulthood. Through childhood years, it was Lin¹s delight to sit and listen to her grandparents (both sides of the Tree) tell stories about the ancestors. Both Grandmothers nurtured Lin along by donating wonderful family photos. Lin listened and documented the stories that went along with each picture in her scrapbooks. In the year 2000 Lin began a long and successful journey in locating her Mother¹s birth parents. Her Mother was placed in her adoptive home at the age of 3 weeks old, in the Fall of 1924. Mom¹s birth roots led Lin to search courthouses, cemeteries, libraries in Minnesota and South Dakota, and adding to the ground searches were long hours of deep internet searching! The internet was blossoming and flourishing, which aided in the search process. (Lin FOUND Mom¹s birth mother & father¹s lines. And she met 3 of the four men who were her Mother¹s half-brothers‹which Mom never knew she had!) As a result of the experience that Lin gained researching her Mother¹s birth roots, Lin does volunteer research for others on the internet today. Lots of man hours of research on the web, some ground searching also and telephone callsŠ..all of it exciting progress toward the finish line of finding those elusive ancestors for others!! Also Lin is still doing her own family genealogy research and preserves it for her children and grandchildren. Lin joined the IAGenWeb project in August 2003, becoming CC of Plymouth County, Iowa, her home county. She is also the CC for 3 other Iowa counties, Monona, Sioux, & Kossuth counties. In all four of these Iowa counties, she has been building relationships with local genealogy enthusiast folks, who have become the very best volunteers and contributors of the county history. Lin is also one of the coordinators for the IowaOldPress Special Project with IAGenWeb, being involved with this since its inception. Linda Ziemann became the IAGenWeb State Coordinator for the year beginning July 1, 2010 - June 30, 2011. In January 2012, she became the Acting SC once again (due to medical leave of the SC at that time.) Lin acted as State Coordinator IAGenWeb from January-June 2012. Prior to the SC duty, Lin spent one full year as Assistant SC for IAGenWeb. On December 7, 2012, another IAGenWeb Special Project site was launched with Linda as the Coordinator for ³Iowa in WWII.² Lin¹s Dad (still living today, age 90 and doing very well) was one of Iowa¹s young soldiers who served during WWII, Army ground forces in Italy, France, Belgium & Germany.) Currently Lin is also the CC of two NDGenWeb counties, Mercer County and Oliver County. (My hubby is from North Dakota.) During several of Linda's research trips to Iowa over the past years, Lin has been guest speaker at several different genealogy society meetings. Several years ago Lin served a two-year term on the USGenWeb Election Committee. Now she has volunteered to serve out the second year of another EC term, which ends in Dec 2015. It is because of the recent Election Committee work that Lin realized that MN was reaching out for help. About Me: Married nearly 40 yrs, come May 2015 Three children, all marriedŠand 7 grandchildren. Lives in Keller, TX, near Ft. Worth. Raised in Iowa, Met my husband in Colorado Hubby is from North Dakota. Lin is RETIRED from the Telephone Company after nearly 30 Yrs. SC MNGenWeb Goals: **To study & learn all I can about the state of MN and its history. In the summer of 2007, I did spend several days in ³the Cities² and visited the Minnesota History Center in St. Paul. What a fabulous place‹enjoyed also the library microfilm there, too. Visited Ft. Snelling Natl Cemetery before leaving the area. **To support & work along side the many other MN County Coordinators **To appoint an Assistant SC (at least one, perhaps two) MN has many counties and the assistants would be a second and/or third pair of eyes and hands to get the work done **To keep the MN state pages updated **To do my utmost in recruiting new CCs for ³adoptable² MN counties **To be ³available² for all the daily tasks that the SC duty encounters **To ³lead² discussion regarding the NEEDS of MNGenWeb‹this could lead to eventual formation of bylaws, rules & procedures. **To ³listen & understand² as issues arise‹and to perform the SC duty using honesty & integrity. **To ³be there² for MNGenWeb , helping create a state project site that we can all be proud to be affiliated with now and into the future. Thanks for your consideration and I will be glad to try and answer questions that anyone may want to send my way. And I promise to SUPPORT and WORK DILIGENTLY with MNGenWeb, no matter who becomes SC. ³We are ALL in this Together!² Linda Ziemann Rock County MNGenWeb

    2. Shirley Cullum via
    3. Shirley Cullum - candidate for MNGenWeb Project SC First, my sincere thanks for being nominated for the SC position and for you taking the time to get to know me through my campaign statement. Thank you for considering me for the MNGenWeb Project SC position. I have been involved with my own genealogy research for 29 years and it has taken me from Texas where I was born back to England with stops in many states all across the country, including Olmsted County, MN. I have been a member of the USGenWeb since February of 1999. I first joined the TXGenWeb Project as a member of the "Page Evaluation Committee" surfing county websites each month to select a County of the month because I did not have a clue as to how to manage a website. I learned HTML through a free, online tutorial and adopted my first county a month later. I am currently serving as the TXGenWeb State Coordinator (since 2006) and the MTGenWeb State Coordinator (since 2012). Other positions I have held are ASC of the TXGenWeb from 2003 until my election to the SC position in 2006; member of the Election Committee and the Grievance Committee. I am a county coordinator in the following states: AR - Columbia County MO - McDonald & Newton County MN - Dodge & Olmsted Counties MT - Custer & Richland Counties TX - Brooks (since 1999), Collingsworth, McMullen, & Upton Counties UT - Beaver County I also manage several county and surname mail lists as well as the state mail lists for MN, MT, & TX. As the MNGenWeb State Coordinator, my number one priority would be to serve the project with fairness, honesty, and integrity. My short-term goals are to appoint 2 ASC's to create a team work with me in the day-to-day management of the project such as maintaining records, updating the state website, and other necessary tasks. The long-term goal is to help the MNGenWeb Project become the best it can be. In order to accomplish that, I plan to involve the members of the project in all decisions affecting the project throughout my term. I live in Italy, Texas, about 40 minutes south of Dallas. I am retired and my hobbies are genealogy and quilting. Oh, and ask about my 18 grand and 6 great-grand children only if you have lots of time. <grin> Sincerely, Shirley Cullum

    1. Re: [MNGEN] SC Campaign
    2. Timothy Stowell via
    3. I joined the project in the summer of 1996 - adopting the county where I live, where my parents and wife were from or associated with. Since my only computer, at the time, was at work, learning HTML as part of my job, learning about lists I was finally able to put pages up in the fall of 1996. I've been doing genealogy since 1977, when I finally became curious enough to determine how all these relatives my parents would speak of were connected. Of course the Internet and it's continually growing assets were a boon to help make those connections. By that time though except for a connections made with relatives through the Internet, I was mostly done, or so I thought with my on family tree. Three of my previous generations had collected newspaper articles, pasted them in books and scrapbooks, so it seemed only right to share such with others. Thus in Minnesota I host Wilkin (wife from there) since 1996; Yellow Medicine (mother-in-law) since 2003; Traverse (sister-in-law) since 2014. I served as National Coordinator from 1999-2001, SC for North Dakota 1996-2003?, SC for Georgia 1999-2003?, ASC for Georgia around 1998-1999. It's been a while so I'm not sure of the ending dates. In other states I host the following counties - Tennessee (live there) - Hamilton and James (defunct county) both since 1996; New York (Dad from there) - Chenango & Madison (1996); Cortland & Sullivan (2005) and NYCentra (a links page for NYGenWeb for the central part of the state). I manage the mailing lists for 4 counties in MN, 3 in NY and 2 in TN that are associated with the counties I host. I host counties for ALHN and AHGP plus my own private sites, mostly for extra data I've picked up along the way and for counties I lost after a round of unpleasantness with the folks on the national level ten years ago. Short term goals - continuing to improve the status of the sites as they existed when the NC stepped in, campaign on the various lists for coordinators for the orphan counties. Listen to all the coordinator's wishes for our joint effort, keep communication lines open. Encourage coordinators, provide tools, data, assistance as requested. Long term goals - to make MNGenWeb a shining example of what the founder envisioned for the project nearly 20 years ago, yet moving forward to embrace new technologies while protecting the rights of all.
