Is the big hooha now that they have included a search engine on the banner? I wonder if one couldn't put a blurb right beneath that saying this does not search this site? 1. [MNGEN] Moving County Sites On Our Own
    2. Mike Peterson via (Dino)
    3. Good thoughts Bryant. The fear I have of moving over to my other sites/servers is what will happen to the MNGenWeb site if I involuntarily cannot do it anymore. Anyone have any thoughts on that? Although it would be nice to have the whole state on one server, we really don’t have to do that. Mike Clay Co From: Genealogy via Sent: Thursday, April 2, 2015 11:03 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [MNGEN] Rootsweb Heading I noticed it this morning and I will be moving my site as soon as possible. It is the same nickel and dime effort to generate more revenue that they used when ancestry took over Rootsweb the first time. Rootsweb is a good organization, but they do belong to ancestry and will do what they are told to do. Bryant

    3. My issue is not that the banner is there; gave up on that a long time ago. My concern is that on the 1st, they added a search box for their ancestry.com site. Linda – I just checked my ND sites again and the top banner is still the old one – it doesn’t have the search box. A move would be a huge undertaking and one that I don't believe (at least right now) is necessary. RW / Ancestry do provide FREE webspace, tech support & unlimited space for the counties. Honestly, I do not believe that the banner we see now at the very top of the pages is meant to be threatening. YES, it is annoying. And we would prefer it not be there. Maybe if each of us COMPLAIN as we can individually to RW (and enough of us do it to merit their attention) then maybe they will consider....removing it. ?????? Just an idea....we should consider doing this as individuals and not corporately. They need to see numbers of folks that are not happy. Just my opinion, for what it is worth......Linda Ziemann, Rock CC On 4/2/15, 12:16 PM, "Shirley Cullum via" <[email protected]> wrote: > I agree with Tim. 3. I can provide space for anyone who wants it - free. No ads, no restrictions. Your URL would be http://theusgenweb.org/mn/(your county here) For example, my Los Angeles County site is there: http://theusgenweb.org/ca/losangeles/ On 4/2/2015 11:19 AM, Kathy Hines via wrote: > If you select a new hosting place in the next couple of days, please let me know which one you picked and why. It now contains a search box for ancestry. Personally I think this will hurt as there are many people who don’t like ancestry.com, they charge too much, etc. It was one thing we acknowledge they give us free hosting, it’s another where we now are a portal for their site. This search box heading is not on my other rootsweb sites (yet), just Minnesota. At this time a disclaimer on outside links on our websites is a recommendation, maybe with this blatant search box that should change. >> Mike >> Clay Co >> >> ------------------------------- >> To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message >> >> >> >> ------------------------------- >> To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. Joy, isn't ixwebhosting the server the USGenWeb site is on and the one MTGenWeb was on that repeatedly got hacked by the Chinese? When it worked it worked well but before checking them out can you let me know? Kathy, I can always ask. Maybe I can open up a dialogue between you and them and you can fast track what you will need to know? I think they also utilize PHP but not sure as that is not my cup of tea. We will figure out something. BTW they already took copies of everything on RW sites several years ago. They said you are using our site so it's our data. I will let you know what I can find out.
