William Bell of Alburg, Grand Isle County, VT, east across Lake Champlain from Mooers Town, Clinton, NY. Elizabeth7 Deuel was the dau. of Michael6 (Philip5, Joseph4 Deuel, Mary3, George2-1 Soule) whereas Preserved Fish7 Deuel was the son of Cornelius6 (John5, Benjamin4 Deuel, Mary3, George2-1 Soule). William Bell and Elizabeth Deuel's son Orlando (1797-1882) b. at Alburg, VT m. Samantha Blackman/mun, b. 29 October 1802 at Mooers, Clinton, VT. Per the Alburg town records, she was the dau. of "J. & S. Blackman of Morestown [sic], NY." Samantha's oldest daughter was Delia Ann Bell, b. at Alburg in 1830. Her third son, my ancestor, b. at Alburg in 1832, was Rev. Martin Powell Bell, who until recently I thought was named for Rev. Martin Powell, the first settlerd pastor of the Mooers Presby. church (1807-1812). However, I now believe it more likely that Rev. Martin Powell Bell was named after his mother's brother, Martin Powell Blackman, as the latter also had daughters named Delia and Samantha. Although the census indexes consistently botch his first name, I can follow Preserved Fish Deuel in the 1810 through 1860 censuses of Washington, Franklin and finally St. Lawrence Counties, NY. I can also follow Martin Powell Blackman from 1830 to 1860 in the censuses from St. Lawrence, NY to various places in Wisconsin. In that Luke Sherman Blackman left no estate record whrn he died in 1858, the problem is whether there is any secondary documentation (deeds, letters between siblings, etc) of Samantha (Blackman) Bell and Martin Powell Blackman being siblings and heretofore unrecognized children of Luke S. and Sally (Foster) Blackman/mun of Mooers, NY.
