Katzung of 1603 Bridge Avenue, Albert Lea. The Reverend Gerald Merkouris officiated at the funeral from Salem Lutheran Church. Burial was in Graceland Cemetery where military honors were provided by Albert Lea Veterans Organizations. Mr. Katzung died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1986 at Good Samaritan Center where he had been a resident for five weeks. He was born Dec. 25, 1893 in Kiester to August L. and Mary (Kuster) Katzung. He moved to Albert Lea following his marriage to Maletta Hintz June 20, 1923. They were married in the Mansfield Lutheran Church. He belonged to Salem Lutheran Church and had been involved with the church senior citizens and at one time served on the church council. Mr. Katzung worked as a mechanic in several garages before he worked at Queen Stoves, where he retired from at the age of 65, after 34 years of employment. He served overseas in World War I in the 86th Blackhawk Division and he was a member of the V.F.W. and the War Dads. He is survived by his wife Maletta of Albert Lea; one son, Ray and his wife Helen of Albert Lea; two daughters, Mary and her husband Paul Thompson of Albert Lea and Bette and her husband Lowell Tonding of St. Louis, Mo.; nine grandchildren, Brad and Reid Katzung, Nancy Erickson, Kim, Michael and Randy Thompson; and Susan Rhodes; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Walter "Sam" Katzung and Arthur Katzung; and one sister, Katheryn Katzung, all of Albert Lea. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Henry and Lawrence, and three sisters, Sarah Hintz, Florence Stieber and Lucy Katzung.
