Hunt was my grandmother's (Laura Alice Bump) grandfather. Laura's mother was Estella Alice Hunt Emery Bump. Nathan was born on July 16, 1827 in Worchester, VT. He was the son of Luther Hunt and Pearl Abbot. After many years searching for the location of his grave, I have narrowed the burial location to two sites: One possible location is Lot 17A at Oakland Cemetery, Alley's Addition, located in Waukon, Allamakee County, Iowa. I reviewed the cemetery records and found a Nathan was buried in this cemetery. The second and third letter of the last name was difficult to decipher and it could be Hart, Hurt or Hunt. No date of birth or death was listed in the records. The original cemetery was platted on September 20, 1875, which was before Nathan's possible death. The possible second location is at Postville Cemetery located near Postville, Allamakee County, Iowa. Postville Review of June 2, 1884 stated an unknown Minnesota regiment soldier was buried in the cemetery, but the identity was lost. United States census of 1880 showed Nathan A. Hunt was living in Post Township. At ! that time he was 53 years old with an occupation of a laborer. Census indicated that he was single, but I know Marietta was still living in 1880. Marietta died in 1917 and is buried in Oakwood Cemetery located at Austin, Mower County, Minnesota. Nathan served in the Minnesota 5th Regiment Co. C & E during the civil war. As you can see both of these two are good possibilities. Nathan married Marietta M. Townsend in 1852 near Elkader, IA. She was born on July 6, 1836 in Penn Yan, Yates County, New York to Stephen Townsend and Abigail Ross. Children were: Ella Alensa Hunt was born in 1852/1853 in Iowa. She married a man with the last name of Thompson and they lived near Max, ND. Lewis Austin Hunt was born on March 31, 1855 and died between 1855-1860. Estella Alice Hunt was born on February 25, 1858 near Geneva, Freeborn County, Minnesota. She married her first cousin, William Andrus Emery. She married Charles Wesley Bump. She lived near Austin and Rose Creek, Mower County, Minnesota. She is buried at Oakwood Cemetery located at Austin, Mower County, Minnesota.. Cora May Hunt was born on May 31, 1862 in Minnesota. Irene Hunt was born in 1864 in Minnesota. She married a man with the last name of King and they lived near Elk River, MN. Charles Hunt was possibly born in December 1865 in Minnesota. Herbert Nathan Hunt was born on May 12, 1867 near Geneva, Freeborn County, Minnesota. He married Jean Highet on March 31, 1904. He married Margaret Forrester on November 11, 1918. He is buried in Oakwood Cemetery located at Austin, Mower County, Minnesota. I have more information, if you are interested.
