It is on Hwy 22 off of Hwy 16 (if you locate Blue Earth and Albert Lea on Hwy 16 in southern MN---go directly between the 2 of them and find hwy 22 that run straight south into Kiester MN------the fur farm is about 2 miles south of 16 on hwy 22 on the west side of the road)-----------they did grow mink and maybe other animals for the fur. They also raised strawberries and sold to local stores---I picked strawberrires for a couple years. Hard work!!!! Their daughter ??? Matz married Don Frederickson from Wells, He owned a very nice jewelry store in Wells---and were looked up to as a family. I think Don's boy is maybe on the farm now. They have rebuilt the house and it is big and beautiful from the outside. MY mother actually worked at the mink farm skinning the mink----hard and yucky work. I hope this helps you out. I could do more research for you if you need----let me know Good luck Are you related to the family

I thought perhaps he'd died, so I checked for a possible widow, Harriet. The following popped up, and I wonder if "B. A. Sweet" could be your Alvin B.: 1880 US Census, Prescott Township, Faribault Co MN: B. A. Sweet self white 63 b. NY farmer Par: NY/NY Harriet Sweet wife white 52 b. NY keep house Par: NY/NY Charles Sweet son single white 22 b. NY At home Adella McDonald dau married 18 b. NY At home A. C. Barnes grandson 6 b. MN Par: NY/NY Wm. Wallace male other 81 b. NH Par: NH/NH M. Marquette male other b. Prussia Par: Pruss/Pruss Davis Cleaveland male other b. NY Par: CT/CT Some reasons I thought this could be your ancestor: [This B. A. at age 63,would have been born in1817] [Prescott Twp. is just to the east of Verona Twp....Verona is where my ancestors settled.] [You mentioned a son, Charles....and this family has one. The dau., Adella, mentioned here would not have been born yet in 1860, and I wonder if the older children had grown/married, and moved to their own homes.] [The grandson has a last name of Barnes, so an older dau. must have married a Barnes.] Four households down the list in the 1880 census, same township, is Alvin Sweet self age 22 b. WI; and wife Malissa Sweet age 20 b. IA. No children. However, the census states this Alvin's parents were born in NY and WI. He is also the same age as Charles.....could the boys have been twins? Or maybe just born 10-11 months apart, I suppose. Or maybe this Alvin isn't related. I also have a book from 1976 with reprints of old 1886 plat maps in it. In Prescott township there is an A. B. Sweet, Sr. in section 11, and an A. B. Sweet, Jr. in section 21. It's interesting that the paragraph next to the map says, "By 1860 there were only 14 persons in teh township [referring to Prescott] and but 42 acres of improved land. In that year a number of persons holding claims in Prescott were living in Verona and Winnebago City townships." (you mentioned your Sweet family lived in Verona.) Hope this might give you a new clue. Margaret

(possibly stands for Burroughs) SWEET, b. in NY State 1815-1817. Lived in Vernon Twp. Faribault County, MN in June of 1860 - with wife, Harriett (age 32), dtr. Weltha, sons Worth and Leland (?), dtr. Alice, and sons, Alvin and Charles Sweet. We believe Alvin B. Sweet was involved in the Patriot War of 1837-1838 at the Battle of Windmill on the Canadian side of the St. Lawrence River between N. Y. State and Ontario, CAN. The English Crown took Alvin and many others to trial, executing several, and sending scores of others to Van Dieman's Land in Tasmania for imprisonment. We believe the Alvin B. Sweet who appears on the MN 1860 Census was the same Alvin B. Sweet who returned to the United States via the ship, the Buffalo, in 1844. He may have first settled in Ohio, then Wisconsin, and then MN. Would really appreciate any facts about date of death and where buried -- or any other information available on the Alvin B. Sweet who lived in MN n 1860. It would be fabulous to learn the identity of his parents (on death certificate). Would sincerely appreciate hearing from descendants. The Patriot War of 1837-38 was a little known, but very interesting episode and one can learn more by going to my website: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~twigs2000/pa-index.html Thank you for any help or suggestions you can give me. His boyhood and young manhood were spent on this father's farm near Dover Hill. When he was 21 he left home going into Illinois to work. He married Bessie Arnold on December 23, 1891 at St. Joseph, Illinois. For some years they lived in Illinois and Indiana and then in 1896 moved to a farm near Eagle Grove, Iowa; from here they moved in 1906, to a farm near St. James, Minnesota. In Sept. 1921 they moved to Blue Earth where they have since resided. To the union six children were born, one of whom died in infancy. The other five with the mother are left to mourn the loss of a beloved husband and father. The children are: Mrs. Bertha Peterson of Butterfield, MN; Chester E. Yarnell of Emmett, Idaho; Mrs. Meyrtle Theobald of Goldfield, Iowa; Charles A. Yarnell and Mrs. Letha Perrine of Blue Earth, MN The other relatives left to mourn his loss are two brothers W.S.
