She is the daughter of Fortine (b. Oct 2 or Oct 14, 1839, d. March 11, 1903) and Magdalena LaVell b. March 17 or 19, 1841, d. July 5, 1913. The 1900 census suggests the birthdate of Feb. 26, 1879 for Rose. In the 1910 census Magdalena Lutz is the head of the household living with her sons Ariel and August and her married daughter, Rose Peterson. Rose is listed as having had 3 children none of whom are living. Peggy Lutz has a note that Rose hanged herself. There may have been some tragedy in the loss of her children and the absence of her husband, but that's just a guess. I can give further information on the Lutz family if you like. My mother is a Lutz although we are more distantly related to the Lutzes in Faribault. I would appreciate any information you can give me about Jens. It supposedly came from a Doctor who offered to innoculate everyone with a "cure" and instead everyone who received it eventually died of smallpox that year. However, it was not reported by the locals. They kept this a big secret and did not spread the fact that Smallpox was in Faibault. Several of my great grandmother's family who received this treatment died this way. However, the ones that did not lived. Interesting...
