Mrs Harkins had succumbed at 3 AM Monday following a long illness. Bravely her husband went ahead with the funeral arrangements. By evening they were completed and he sat down to rest and talk to friends. About 7:00 PM, a neighbor brought in some foodstuffs and Mr Harkins offered a grateful "Thank you". Those were his last words. The doctor said his death was due to a heart attack. Mr and Mrs Harkins, 79 and 80 years old respectively, were born on adjoining farms near Inver Grove in Dakota Co. Raised and educated together, they were married in 1883. They lived in St Paul for the last 45 years, their home being at 842 Ashland Ave. Mr Harkins worked 26 years with the old St Paul Fas and Light Co and was chief engineer when he retired. Next, her was in business with his son Thomas J Harkins, until about ten years ago. Both he and Mrs Harkins took an active interest in the affairs of St Luke's Church. They are survived by six children; Thomas J, George J, Mrs Leo Maloy, Mrs Hugo Tessman, and Mrs Harold Vosges, all of St Paul, and William J of San Francisco. Mrs Harkins also is survived by a sister, Mrs Julia Masterson of Los Angeles. Funeral services will take place at 9:00 AM Thursday in St Luke's Church, Summit Ave and Lexington Parkway. Burial will be at Inver Grove.
