    1. [MNDAKOTA] Wisconsin research
    2. Tom Wilde
    3. If any of you are doing research in Wisconsin you may be interested in the following email I received today. Earlier this year I ordered some birth certificates from the Wisconsin Historical Society's Research Service on my grandmother and her brothers and sisters who were born in Wisconsin before the family moved to Minnesota. I was thoroughly satisfied with the service provided by this agency and plan to use it again. Tom Wilde MNDAKOTA Listmanager ------------------------ Subect: Holiday Greetings from Wisconsin Date: Thu, 13 Dec 2001 15:57:36 -0600 From: "Michael Edmonds" <[email protected]> This is just a note to say, "Thanks!" Earlier this year you placed an order with the Wisconsin Historical Society's fledgling Online Genealogical Research Service (http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/genealogy/ogrs/index.html). I hope we were able to meet your needs. At the end of next month we'll roll out an improved site which will provide Wisconsin Civil War soldiers' records as well as birth, marriage and death certificates. Meanwhile, I want to call your attention to a large - - and entirely free - - genealogy and local history resource that we're just finishing. "Wisconsin Local History & Biography Articles" contains almost 50,000 pages of Wisconsin newspaper stories published between 1860 and 1940. You can search for people, topics such as "German immigrants," or you can simply browse articles from the town your ancestors lived in. Give it a try at http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/wlhba/index.asp (and have fun). In 2002 we expect to gradually unveil an enormous, free database of Wisconsin personal names for you to use. This index will point to selected obituaries, biographical sketches in county histories, listings in professional directories, and articles about people in local papers, and you'll be able to order copies of most of them online. Again, thank you for your support in 2001 as we got our new Web service up and running. Please tell your friends and family with Wisconsin ancestors to give it a try, too. Finally, best wishes for happy holidays and a safe and prosperous new year. Sincerely yours, Michael Edmonds Deputy Director, Library & Archives Division Wisconsin Historical Society

My father-in-law, Howard La Porte, gave me the names of his grandparents, and his aunts and uncles, and some cousins. He passed away a year ago, so I can't get anymore information from him. He told me his grandparents were Julius and Mathilda Pagenkopf.(from ancestry.com it looks like her maiden name was Benjamin) His mother was Maud, his father Frank La Porte. The names he gave me for his aunts and uncles were: Bernie George May - twin to Maud Alice - your grandmother I would think Agnes He said Bernie was married to Ruth (I don't know if Bernie was the Pagenkopf or Ruth was) they had a son Robert May was married to a Chester Tyler, and I think he said their children were Dorothy, Rosetta, and Lloyd Alice was married to a James, and had a daughter Mary Alice He must have known Mary Alice quite well, as he mentioned her anytime he spoke of the Pagenkopf side of the family. You mention she was 84 years old in 1999, which would have made her about a year younger than him. I am assuming here, that Mary Alice is your Mother. My father -in-law was born in Minnesota, and his family moved back and forth between the St. Paul area and Canada several times before staying in Canada. He said his mother didn't like to stay put for long. His father worked for a time as a butcher, I believe with Swift meats in St. Paul or Faribault. Maud & Frank had 2 daughters and 6 sons.1 daughter and 2 sons are still living. I haven't done too much research on the Pagenkopfs, but would like to find out more about them. Let me know if I have you connected properly.

The information I have on William Woodhouse is that he was born in Wales or England in 1840 and that he died in St. Peter, Nicollet Co., MN, on 27 Nov. 1908 (I have a copy of his death certificate). His DC says that his father was John Woodhouse who was born in England but it does not have any information on his mother. I do know also that he married Mary Milner (Miller?) in England/Wales and they had a son, Ernest, while still living in England/Wales. They may also have had a daughter while there but then moved to Muskoka Co, Ontario, where my grandmother, Elizabeth Woodhouse, was born in 1876. My research in Canada has revealed absolutely nothing about this Woodhouse family. So, any information I get is a possible lead to finding William's origins. Thanks for the reply to my query.
