I know Robert died a few years after their son John was born and Elizabeth went back to her parents farm (Carl & Elizabeth Peine) with her son to live. I would like to find out what happened to her and her son. I originally thought John was John Jacob, but I see that was a wrong turn. I think I have seen that Schaffer book once. I believe one of my sister-in-laws might have it. I will have to do some begging and maybe I can borrow it from one of them.

I also found out that Sister Incarnata Girgen, in her research. originally the name was Thiessen and then changed to Girgen. It was Thomas Girgen Thiessen, then he changed it to Thomas girgen. I only have a little information. John and Elizabeth girgen (i'm sure there are many spellings of this in German) and they had 4 children 2 born in the states. Frederick and Lorenz or Lawrence. Elizabeth was 71 in 1900 on the census. That's al I know.

I have a copy. The Schaffers in the New Trier area were all related, EXCEPT for a Marcus Schaffer, who died in Kansas. The Moes family can be traced back a few generations to a Franz Moes who lived in Kehlen/Olm, Luxembourg. As a side note, I believe that Sophie Landsberger, was in fact born in Pewaukee,Wisconsin. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/UGB.2ACE/659.1 Message Board Post: Hi: The surname Gergen, was originally spelled Goergen, and sometimes Gorgen with an umlaut over the o. That particular family came from Luxembourg, originally lived in Fischbach, and before that I have not traced yet. The other name Gegen is sometimes spelled Jegen, originally came from the Matzen area near Wilsecker in the Rheinland, and before that from Gransdorf. And furthermore there is another family, now spelled Girgen, which is from the Rocherath, Belgium area. It also had variant spellings like Goergen and Gergen. I hope this helps somewhat Bob Olson

If I have the right Schaffer's, George born Feb 05, 1843 Heuthen, Thuringia, Conrad & Henry are the sons of John Schaffer & Catherine Stitz. Who were the spouses to Conrad & Henry? I don't know that being second cousins complicate matters, at times it makes finding other relatives fairly easy!! :) I have been at this for a couple of years. I have so many other family names in my files it's just a matter of hooking them all up. Yes, I live in MN about an hour from Hastings.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/UGB.2ACE/660.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: My husbands parents were second cousins, which tends to complicate things a bit. George Schaffer's brother, Conrad, was the father of August, who was my husbands father. Another of George's brothers, Henry, was the father of Adam, who was the father of Agnes, my husbands mother. Now as if that were not enough, Agnes' first husband was a Kimmes. I started this whole thing as a gift to my husband, his sisters and brother. I began by working on the Kimmes/Peine lines. I found several links to the Schaffers there. I have a lot of info on the Schaffers but have not organized it yet. One of the McGree's have been very generous in sending me information. I would be glad to make a list of what I have for you, although I have the feeling you have been at this a long time and probably have a lot more than I do. Do you live in Minnesota?

I am new to this research and frankly get overwhelmed at times by the tangled web of his family. But I have amassed a tremendous amount of information and if I can be of any help to you doing census look-ups or whatever just let me know. We live in California so I am somewhat limited but I would be happy to trade whatever I have.
