My mother put a copy in the Everett library at Everet, Snohomish Co., Washington but when a person went to look for it there the library said they don't have the book. You could look at Ebay or try used book stores of which some will look for you. I will do my my best to look up anything in this book but it isn't the same as having the book and looking through youself. It also includes the 1925 book " Countryman Genealogy " which out now in a reprint I believe. Take Care. Michael

    1. [MNDAKOTA] update - 1800s-Keeley Small Masterson Fee McNamara McCahey Deem Cassidy Pagel Beaudette Kerans
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/UGB.2ACE/635.2 Message Board Post: This is an updated post which contains new information sent to me in response to my original post. Again, Charles Keeley, (parents *unknown*), changed his name to the more English-sounding “Charles Small” to avoid prejudice against Irish-nationals in his efforts to immigrate to America. He supposedly traveled here on a ship called “The Queen” (and I did find mention of a ship with that name based in Quebec which voyaged back and forth to England with some visits to Irish ports). Two censuses I looked at seem to indicate that Charles arrived in this country in 1852 and several years later married Ann Masterson, (who, family lore has it, was met by him on the ship that brought them to America). He became a naturalized citizen in June 7, 1877. Charles Small - let’s say we accept the 1827 birthyear on Charles’ gravestone. He would then be 25 or 26 when he arrives in the America in 1852, (which nothing seems to contradict). He would be 29 or 30 when he and Ann married in about 1855. A year-or-so later, the 1857 Census states that he is 22-years old. 3 years later, the 1860 Census has him as 30-year-old. He appears in the 1865 Census as simply “Chas” without any more information. 5 years later, the 1870 Census has him 45-years-old, (which is a couple years older than he should be). 10 years later, for the 1880 Census, he’s only reached the age of 51. 5 years later, the 1885 Census has him at 60. Jump 15 years more, to the 1900 census, and Charles is only 66, actually specifying for him a birthdate of January, 1834. 10 more years, and Charles has aged almost twice that, being now 83 for the 1910 census, which is just about right for what is going to be on his headstone! after his death on January 7, 1911. (He is buried in St.Peters Cemetery, Mendota, Dakota County, Minnesota). Charles’ wife was Ann Masterson (parents *unknown*). She seems to be born in 1833, 6 years younger than Charles. For the 1857 Census, ‘Anne’ is 18-years-old, (only 4 years younger than her husband), which would to be about 6 years shy of her real age. 3 years later, she is 21-years-old, (but now her husband is now 9 years older than her). 10 years later, the 1870 Census has her as a 35-year-old, (but again her husband has seemingly aged faster than her, being 10 years her senior at this date). Another 10 years and the 1880 Census has her as a 50-year-old, (but amazingly her husband is now only one year older than her). 5 more years and the 1885 Census has her as 52-years-old. A jump of 15 years brings us to the 1900 Census and ‘Anna’ is only 64, (with a specific birthdate of June, 1836, (2.5 years after that of her husband’s)). That same census reflects that she had born 10 children of which only 8 were still living. 10! years more and the 1910 Census has Ann as 76 now and it states that she had born 12 children with 8 living. I couldn’t find her in the Census of 1920, but she would pass away a little later in 1921. (She is buried in St.Peters Cemetery, Mendota, Dakota County, Minnesota). Now, the children of Charles and Ann: The first Mary Small is a 1-year-old in the 1857 Census, but I believe she died soon after, as she missing in the census of three years later and the next girl, born later, is given the same name. There certainly seems to be at least one more child, (if not three), who did not survive childhood. That child must have both been born and died between census periods as it never seems to appear on any of them. James H. Small is the next child. He is 3 for 1860’s census, 14 for 1870’s and 24 for 1880’s. Most of those ages indicate that he was born before 1857, but somehow he doesn’t appear as an infant in the 1857 Census. He is no longer part of the family household after the 1880 Census and we know he married Maria McNamara. He seems to be still alive in 1910 and poses for a family portrait taken that year, but in his mother’s will, dated 1917, he is revealed to have passed away. It is known that he had at least one daughter named Octavia. (It is possible that the James H. Small who passed away July 22, 1917 in Minnesota’s Ramsey County is ours.) Peter J. Small’s birthdate is specified in the 1900 Census as being April, 1858 and none of the other censuses contradict that, with the slight exception of the 1920 Census which gives his age as 59 when he should be 61 or 62. He seems to stay within the family household through all the censuses through 1910, (he was 52-years-old), but in the 1920 Census he shows up in his own household with only his wife Balinda *unknown*, a woman from Ireland, who seems to be 16 years his junior. (There is a small chance that wife’s name might actually be “Belanda”.)(It is possible that the Peter J. Small who passed away August 25, 1951 in Minnesota’s Ramsey County is ours.) Mary Ann Small was born within a year or two after the 1860 Census according to most of the following ones. The 1900 Census gives her birth date as February, 1865, (exactly the same as her husband), but that doesn’t seem to possibly be correct, as she does appear in the 1965 census and that there is a another child in the household who would have to be her twin or born after her, (but before the 1865 Census), (for that matter, that child appears to be two years younger than her through several successive censuses). Her name appears as Mary, Mary A., MaryAnn and finally as “Maryan” in the 1900 Census which also shows she entered into marriage in 1888 or 1889 with Michael A. McCahey from Ireland, moved to Minnesota’s Ramsey County and started producing children, who were at that time: Rose A. (10), Arthur C. (9), Mary (6), Eugene (4), and Elizabeth (2). Mary Ann was still alive and mentioned in her mother’s will, dated 1917. Charles (Charley) A. Small has appeared on the scene by the 1865 Census, (as “Chas”). He is strangely missing from the 1870 Census, but returns for 1880 and 1885, (both confirming his age for a 1864 or 1865 birthdate). He must have married his wife, Emma Elizabeth Fee, in 1895 or 1896 and is found at age 35 with her in his own household in the 1900 Census, (which unfortunately gives him a July, 1866 birthdate which doesn’t even concur with its own age figure). They have a 1-year-old son, Carroll Francis and they are all still together for the 1920 Census, but they are now sharing their home with the wife’s brother, Timothy E. Fee (44). (It is possible that the Charles A. Small that passed away April 4, 1951 in Minnesota’s Dakota County is ours.) Elizabeth (Lizzie) Small was apparently born in 1868 according to her headstone. The following censuses agree with that, plus-or-minus a year. She must have married Milton O. Deem, (7 years her junior), after 1900, but before 1910. It seems Elizabeth passed away October 16, 1930 and is buried at St.Peters Cemetery, Mendota, Dakota County, Minnesota with her parents and her husband, (who outlived her by 21 years). The next child, Margaret (Maggie) appears as Margaret Small on the censuses following her birth, but family lore has that she preferred to use “Margaret Keeley”, at least until she married. the 1900 Census sets her birth as October 1872, but the two before that would have it as 1 or 2 years earlier. After 1900, but before 1910 she married William Thomas Cassidy and the couple pretty much moved away from the area. It is known that they had at least one child, the son Paul. Alice Small was born in 1872 or 1873 and was no longer part of the family household by 1900, presumably already married to Reinhart (Rheinhart) Pagel. She had least one child - Cecil Charles Pagel (born 1911) I believe Celia Small was born 1876 despite the fact that the 1900 Census sets her birthdate as January, 1879. The 1885 Census referred to her as “Selia”. June 24, 1902 she wed Alphonse Beaudette, (sometimes seen as “Beaudet”). [Additional information for him - he was born June 1, 1872 and died Febuary 11, 1914 and was the son of Octave Joseph Beaudette and Julia Lemay who were themselves married February 8, 1858 in Mendota, Dakota County, Minnesota]. Having outlived her husband, Celia was still alive and mentioned in her mother’s will, dated 1917. For the 1900 Census, Charles and Ann Small had two grandchildren living with them: 18-year-old Edward Small and 6-year-old-Anna Small. I don’t know to which of their boys they belong to, (though my guess would be James H.) Also, family lore has that Charles’ brother was Frank Keeley and he married Alice Masterson, (Ann’s sister) and ultimately settled in Louisville, Kentucky in 1863 or 1864. Other than that, the particulars about this couple are a complete mystery. So, if anybody can add to this information, I would be glad to receive it and update this in the future.
