If you google for Naflette, one of the hits is for this page: http://www.cafe.rapidus.net/jhuriaux/femmesn.html which is a list of female French names. Ojibwe names and words, form what I've seen, are much different, so the name Naflette is definitely French. If Naflette was Ojibwe, she could have take a French name when she married her first husband (Chouinard). I searched the 1880 census at familysearch.org and found Charles Darby (her 2nd husband), but the wife's name was Mary and she was born in Canada to Canadian parents: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/census/household_record.asp?HOUSEHOLD_CODE=1880US_8012310&HOUSEHOLD_SUB=1&frompage=5 "Naflette" apparently is often combined with Marie to make "Naflette-Marie", so if that was her name maybe the census taker just skipped the Naflette? When did she marry Darby, anyway? The 1900 census should tell you more. BTW, have you searched the 1870 Morrison county census for Delia's family in Belle Prairie? I think a trip to Brainerd to visit the Crow Wing County Historical Society would be well worth your while. Be sure to also allow time to visit the Evergreen cemetery in Brainerd, because, guess what?!? Naflette is buried there! "Darby, Neffett" died 03-20-1902 age 75 yrs. Buried in block 4 lot 91 (Fractional), along with a child of Joseph Grondin (the child died 05-20-1899). With a date of death you now have a chance at finding other things like a death record or an obituary. Good luck!
