Frank and Anna Stefan settled in Brainerd in 1921. They had five sons, Frank Jr., Henry, Richard, Milo, and M.L. and a daughter Rose. Frank, Anna, Frank Jr., Henry and Milo all traveled from Bohemia. The family moved to Nebraska where Richard was born and then moved to Minnesota. Frank was the brother of my great-grandmother who I know little about. I am interested in any information about Frank and Anna or their descendants that might hold some clues. Are there any Stefans still in Brainerd or the surrounding area who might be descended from this line?

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/TGB.2ACE/144.168.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi Alice (we're on a first-name basis around here, eh?), You have quite a challange in finding information on Delia's mother, Naflette. If you google for Naflette, one of the hits is for this page: http://www.cafe.rapidus.net/jhuriaux/femmesn.html which is a list of female French names. Ojibwe names and words, form what I've seen, are much different, so the name Naflette is definitely French. If Naflette was Ojibwe, she could have take a French name when she married her first husband (Chouinard). I searched the 1880 census at familysearch.org and found Charles Darby (her 2nd husband), but the wife's name was Mary and she was born in Canada to Canadian parents: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/census/household_record.asp?HOUSEHOLD_CODE=1880US_8012310&HOUSEHOLD_SUB=1&frompage=5 "Naflette" apparently is often combined with Marie to make "Naflette-Marie", so if that was her name maybe the census taker just skipped the Naflette? When did she marry Darby, anyway? The 1900 census should tell you more. BTW, have you searched the 1870 Morrison county census for Delia's family in Belle Prairie? I think a trip to Brainerd to visit the Crow Wing County Historical Society would be well worth your while. Be sure to also allow time to visit the Evergreen cemetery in Brainerd, because, guess what?!? Naflette is buried there! "Darby, Neffett" died 03-20-1902 age 75 yrs. Buried in block 4 lot 91 (Fractional), along with a child of Joseph Grondin (the child died 05-20-1899). With a date of death you now have a chance at finding other things like a death record or an obituary. Good luck!

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: chouinard, grondin, britton, cook Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/TGB.2ACE/499.1 Message Board Post: Hello Ramona, I am glad to find you.I am doing research for my daughter Jessica Anderson for a college schlorship. To make a long story short(er???) Jessica is the grandaughter of Betty (Cook)Anderson, daughter of Mayme (Britton)Cook, daughter of Clara (Grondin) Britton, daughter of Delia (Chouinard) Grondin, daughter of (and here is the wall) Adeline,or Naflett, or Laflett-Darby(second marriage?)Chouinard (many different spellings). Delia Grondin had sister "Tillie"--believed to be Matilda Chouinard. Family memory has her as Tillie Daloney?? Children of Delia and Joseph Grondin were Joseph Jr., Fred, Edward, Frank, Bill (william), Julia, Belle, Clara, Rose, Jennie or Jenny, Marriage of Delia and Joseph Grondin is well documented as they had the FIRST marriage license issued in Brainerd. Joseph SR. also had a brother Pierre (Peter??) Grondin who joined him in Brainerd in Nov 1883. I also have many other family facts..... Clara, when living had stated that she was 1/4 indian. This would make Delia 1/2 and her mother or father 100%. I am trying to establish this Native American hertiage. Delia and Tillie apparently came to Brainerd from Belle Prairie (Morrison Co). Belle Prairie was the area around Father Pierz (as in Pierz MN) church and a known Indian settlement around 1860. Thank you for any information you can share and hopefully I have some clues for you too. Sincerely, Alice Anderson
