Individual county maps are useful for identifying 1874 transportation routes, railroads, canals, streams and rivers, cities, towns and villages, and early Minnesota place names. One-room schools, churches, cemeteries and other cultural features are also included in the county maps. The city and village plat maps in the Minnesota Atlas are often more detailed with many early property owners identified; industrial sites including a variety of stores, factories and mills; State and local government sites: cemeteries, churches, schools, fair grounds, race tracks, asylum & hospitals; and much more. The high resolution digital map data is presented in Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF). and the Adobe Acrobat Reader is included on each CD. The information about Alice being part Indian has been told to me as well. The only difference is that I was told she was born in Beacon Falls, Ct. It's a small town next to Naugatuck and friends of mine from Beacon Falls have said they remember the Hotchkiss family and confirmed that they had Indian ancestory. That's all I know. I'm happy to hear about a name for the tribe Alice was descended from. Until now I had no information that confirmed that. I'll be at [email protected] until into January if you care to pass on any other info. Some family members have traced the Wedge name back toi the Puritans arrival in 1630! I had no idea. Thanks for the information. Judy Mazzadra

I lived in St Mathias Township about 2 miles from St Mathias Church for over 25 years. There is a very nice Catholic church with an adjoining cemetery in St Mathias. If the obituaries said they were buried in St Mathias it could be there. If they were not catholic then there could be other cemeteries. If you contact the Crow Wing County Historical Society, they have a web site, they have a book with all of the cemeteries in Crow Wing County and transcriptions of the headstones. It was done in about 1979. If you need anything else let me know.
