Ranges 29-32 were surveyed by James McBride in 1856, while Twsp.43, Range 28 was surveyed by O. E. Garrison in 1856. These five congressional Twsp. were organized as Mooersville Twsp. on June 29, 1882, named in Honor of D. S. Mooers, the owner of the largest farm in this district and also the oldest resident. Twsp. 43, Range 30 was detached Sept. 6, 1887, and organized as Daggett Brook. Twsp. 43, Range 28, (later to be Roosevelt Twsp.) and Twsp. 43, Range 29, (later to be Platte Lake Twsp.) were detached June 9, 1892. The remaining territory, Twsp. 43, Range 32, remained unorganized until 1904, when it became Ft. Ripley Twsp. Daniel S. Mooers is my gggrandfather.
Hello list, I am searching for information on my GGrandfather, Lauritz (or Laurs or Louis) Voldby, who emigrated to the US in 1903. At the time he was 26 years old. According to the information I have so far, he left Denmark to go to Brainerd, Crow Wing accompanied by his 2nd wife, Ane Kjerstine. Any information on him will be greatly appreciated. I don't think you can photo copy but you can write the info down. Maybe you can photocopy if you pay... but i was there 2 yrs ago and they were very nice. good luck! shelby

The city clerk may have more info at 218-692-2688. It was one of the many that were walked by Earl Leslie and his group around 1979 and compiled into "Cemetery Records of Crow Wing County". I am looking for information on John A. Skallman who lived in Deerwood in 1930. he was born in Sweden. My grandfather was Axel Skallman who came here in 1903. As far as I have ever known the only Skallman's here have been our immediate family. I would like to find out if there is a connection between us and John A. Skallman. I am looking for my 3rd cousin, Phil Ward. I know that he had a stroke in Dec. 1954 and was in the hospital in Brainerd and he died on Jan. 19 in the hospital. I have no idea how long he lived in Brainerd, but would appreciate any information I could get on him. His mother was Lena Will Ward and his father was John J. Ward. Thanks for any help. He past away on May 21, 1956. I don’t know where he died, but in the 1930 census he lived as farmer in Deerwod Township, Crow wing County, MN. I'm also looking for his brother Anton Erick Oberg's obit, he died on September 17, 1943.
