Mn Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Mn/Chisago/10033 Surname: Lindall ------------------------- I am writing the biography of my great-uncle Jonas Lindall of Franconia, Chisago County, MN. I have found wonderful historical materials, but nothing personal. I know there was an auction sale at Jonas's father's farm (John Lindall of rural Shafer) after the brother Gust Lindall died in 1926. I am wondering if anyone might have purchased old Civil War letters or other personal memorabilia that I might look at. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Jean Stark

    3. Posted on: Chisago Co. Mn Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Mn/Chisago/34 Surname: YOUNG, CARLISLE, SCHOLASTIE ------------------------- Is Chisago City in Hennepin or Chisago Co? I am looking for info on my husband's grandmother. Her name was Martha Fuller YOUNG, b. 17 Jun 1893. She was orphaned by age 7 and went to live with her uncle. When she retired and applied foe social security, she did not have a birth certificate. She was not sure where she was born, she thought Chicago. I was reviewing some things in a file and found the name of Chisago, it is a long shot, but it is near where her Grandmother lived in Minneapolis. I figure that a young child could easily mix up Chicago and Chisago. Could any one tell me where I would write to see if they my have a copy of her birth recorded in MN? Thanks . Kathy Watson

    3. Posted on: Chisago Co. Mn Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Mn/Chisago/28 Surname: Carnes, Sunrise ------------------------- Sunrise, Rush City and other river towns in Chisago county share a lot of their history with the Wisconsin side of the river. The river valley was connected by many ferries and the people moved, shopped and traveled back and forth a lot in the 1800s through the end of the ferries in the mid 1900s. I am working with a group of Wisconsin side people trying to create a history of the settlement along the St.Croix river north of St. Croix Falls(Taylors Falls) to Hwy 70 or so near Grantsburg. We are looking for stories, pictures, information etc that will be included in the history book. We are interested in the people living on the border of the two states. My relatives ran the Sunrise ferry for many years and lived on both sides of the river. The family name was Carnes. If you have information please contact me at russhan@rconnect.com. Thanks Russ

    1. Root family settled for a time in Wyoming, Chisago, MN
    2. Shannon Lehr
    3. I am looking for descendants (and/or more information on) of Sebastian Root and Emily Chrisman. They married in August 1854 in Coventry, Chester, PA. They lived in Philadelphia for a short time before they sold their property and left for Minnesota. They arrived in 1855 in the Wyoming, Chisago, MN area. After the death of Emily's father, George Chrisman (about 1864/1865), Emily purchased a farm in Cottage Grove, Washington, MN (1866 - using her inheritance). Sebastian Root was born 2 Jun 1811 in PA. He died Jan 1876 in Cottage Grove and is buried in the Cottage Grove cemetery. After his death, Emily sold the farm and moved to Afton Village until her death in Dec 1915. Emily was born 9 Dec 1826 in PA (probably Chester Co., PA). Her parents are George Chrisman Sr. and Ann High. It does not seem that the children of Sebastian and Emily knew who their grandparents were based on the information given on the death certificate. The children of Sebastian and Emily are: 1) Egbert Root - bn abt 1857 MN, died single Aug 1905 buried in Cottage Grove cemetery according to the death record from Washington Co. 2) Emma A. Root - bn abt 1859 MN, md. ?? to Sam Pry(e), was living in Milwaukee, WI in 1915 per her mother's will 3) Charles Root - bn abt 1861 MN, was living in Afton, MN in 1915 per his mother's will 4) John Root - bn abt 1862 MN, was living at 555 Canada St., St. Paul, MN in 1915 per his mother's will 5) Minnie Root - bn 24 Oct 1865 MN, md. ?? to W.W. Freeman, was living in Santa Barbara, CA in 1915 per her mother's will 6) Seymour H. Root - bn 24 Nov 1868 MN, md. 6 Nov 1898 to Emma Walters in Valley City, ND, d. 18 Apr 1952 in Valley City, ND (my great grandfather) 7) Guy Root - bn 2 Aug 1871 MN, md. 5 Jul 1895 to Nellie Sanderson in MN, d. 1948 per the tombstone at Cottage Grove cemetery, was living in Hudson, WI in 1915 per his mother's will 8) son Root - bn 13 Jan 1873 MN, d. 12 Aug 1873 Apparently there are two other children that Sebastian and Emily had that did not survive (according to the information given on the 1900 census of 10 children/7 living) Sebastian was also married before Emily to Mary Mackey of Clinton, Lycoming, PA who died in 1853. Sebastian and Mary had 4 children: 1) Fanny/Francy Root bn abt 1843 PA (stayed behind w/grandmother in Lycoming Co, PA.) 2) William Root bn abt 1845 PA 3) Lewis C. Root bn abt 1848 PA (went back to Lycoming, PA by 1870 per census) 4) Laura Emma Root bn 1850 PA, d. 1851 PA Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated. I have some of the names of Guy and Nellie's children. Guy was given the picture of Sebastian and his own picture. John Root was given all other pictures and was also executor of Emily Root's will. Look forward to hearing from anyone who knows of this family. Chris and Shannon Lehr

    3. Posted on: Chisago Co. Mn Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Mn/Chisago/27 Surname: ------------------------- Dear Heidi, I hope it is the same William who died in Monroe Co., Illinois in 1817! My husband's mother was the daughter of William Clover b.1874, and Elizabeth Lillico, of North Dakota. William was the son of Thomas Clover, born 1829 in Jefferson Co., Missouri. Thomas was the son of Michael Clover, born abt.1800, unknown location. Recently I have found some indication that William Clover, d. 1817, in Monroe Co., Illinois, was Michael's father, and beyond that I am stumped. From what I have been able to find out, they came to Illinois from Indiana, before that Kentucky (perhaps) and West Virginia. Prior to that, New Jersey or New York, arriving from Germany. Does any of this fit with what you have? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am wondering if the Chisago Clovers are related or a different family.
