I checked Rootsweb Social Security Death Index (ssdi.rootsweb.com) and found only 1 Martin Swenson with the birthdate 11 Nov 1888 - date of death April 1977 in Orange, New York. Go to the above site, put in his name, go to advanced search, scroll down and put in his birthdate. Once his name comes up, click on Orange, New York, there appears to be some sites where you may be able to get more information if this is indeed a match. I could not find anything for Alma. Hovmantorp is right near where my ggggrandfather who lived in the chisago lake area was from, they all came early about 1854, but then my ggrandfather followed his grandfather and came about 1869. You need to check all the census, state and federal for chisago lake area and see how early you find them there and if the mother of the early children is also mary or if there is a death of a mother and this mary is the second wife or if they were living together and had many children before they were married, this is highly unusual in such a high christian area as chisago county. The Quist that was a witness is a distant shirt tail cousin of mine. in 1895 they are #41 on the state census of Chisago lake twsp. no1grm@aol.com ============================== Search over 1 Billion names at Ancestry.com! http://www.ancestry.com/rd/rwlist1.asp

I would like to find some information on Christain and Ellen Johnson who lived in Taylor Falls around 1871 to 1878. In 1878 Christain died we were told, and Ellen moved to Litchfield. I found them on the 1870 Census when they lived in St. Paul. On the census it had Ellen Johnson and her 3 sons A.C, Nelson, Charlie. Christain and his son John were not on the census, but maybe was looking for land in Taylor Falls. Ellen Johnson maiden name was Nelson and her relatives might have lived in Taylor falls also. Any information will be helpful. Thank You Charles Johnson

Posted on: Chisago Co. Mn Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Mn/Chisago/10034 Surname: Taylor ------------------------- Re Taylors Falls in Washington County "The village of Taylors Falls took its name from the lower part of the St Croix Rapids, called Taylors Falls after Jesse Taylor, the first man who made a claim and a serious attempt at improvement. Mr Taylor came to the Falls in 1838 and in conjunction with his associate B. F. Baker built a saw mill near what is now known as the upper steamboat landing. THis mill was never operated, but was sold to Joshua L. Taylor, and subsequently moved to Osceola. Joshua L. Taylor in 1848 came to the Falls in the employ of the St Croix Falls Lumber Company. After purchasing the mill, he engaged in logging and in 1849 preempted portions of the site of Taylor's Falls. His older brother, Nathan C. D. Taylor came to the falls in 1846 and joined with his brother in preempting the site of Taylors Falls, and in 1853 engaged in mercantile buisness with Patrick Fox. A third preemptor in the person of W. H. C. Folsm was associated with the Taylor brothers and these three laid out the village of Taylors Falls in 1853. N. C. D Taylor established the post office in 1851. He built the first gristmill with Folsom and the Day brothers in 1852." from May 19, 1887 St Croix Valley Standard newspaper. Next from "Fifty Years in the Northwest" Jesse Taylor, the first permanent settler of Taylor's Falls, came to the Falls in 1838, as narrated in the general history of the village. Nothing is known of his life before coming to the Falls, except that he was originally from Kentucky, and lived at Fort Snelling, where he was employed as a stonemason. By the death of his associate, B. F. Baker, he came into possession of the mill property and its belongings. This he sold to Joshua L. Taylor in 1846, and removed to Stillwater, where he took a contract for stone work on the prison walls. His name appears as a member of the house from Stillwater in the territorial legislature for 1851 and 1852. He was married in 1844 to Abigail, daughter of widow Edwards, of Stillwater. He left Stillwater in 1853."
