    3. Many of you are probably aware that as of Jan. 1, the Minnesota Historical Society started daily "today in Minnesota history" facts at the new "Minnesota Book of Days" feature on their home page at <http://www.mnhs.org>. While surfing on the site, I found the following on the 'Visual Resources" section. Picture of Jacob Peterson's store in Shafer in 1905: http://156.99.108.7/newdb/image.html?NID=4&uid=20020pk04UI and watercolor of the same store done in 1940: http://156.99.108.7/newdb/image.html?NID=13&uid=20020pk04UI A few pictures of his General Store appear in the history book on Shafer (SHAFER - SWAMP TO VILLAGE by Vivian Fry Myers). In addition there is a picture of his house (on page 63). I was wondering if anyone knew if either the store or his house is still standing? Or, better yet, if anyone knew of any of his descendents? Many thanks! Joanne

There is also a Carl F Johnson listed as the father of John Carlsson a teacher in Chisago Lake who died at age 23 of consumption. A Swedish langusage newspaper Svenska Tribunen in obit publ 5 sept 1912 indicated that Carl was from Uråsa, KRONOBERG LAN and emigrated in 1882. the paper erroniously, the author thinks, gives the death date as 23 Aug 1912. From county death records, Fairview cem. transcriptions and Svenska Tribunen all from "The Swedes of Chisago county the first 50 years Book 1 A-L" by Earl W Leaf It is possible that Uråsa is a farm or an area near Ostra Törsas where many of the people of Chisago Lake area left from. There is an Andrew Johnson born 26 Dec 1835 and died 27 Aug 1917 at Chisago Lake. There is also an Andrew who married a Anna asklund on 14 july 1860. Anna may have been born in Vaxjö, Kronobergs and emigrated 1853. She died 3 july 1903 and her death is reported in the Svenska Tribunen of 14 july 1903. not sure if these are the same people, I find no Gustaf with the correct dates, some are close and may be the right one, but cannot be sure. They need to be found on the census records 1910, 1900, 1880, 1870, 1860 also on the state census records. 1865,1865,1875,1885,1895, 1905 You can order the Chisago newspapers on interlibreary loan and can look up the papers around the death dates and there may be more on the family in those. go to Minnesota Historical Society site and then go to ask Ron, newspapers, and put in Chisago and find the paper you want, go to the local library and have them order them on ILL and it will cost between 6-8 dollars a roll or I have someone in minnesota that will look them up for you for a fee. Maybe you can find some nice person who will do it for free. I am in California and order all my newspaper rolls, naturalization records and other microfilm from MHS. Smaland and Kronoberg län are the same general area, just different jurisdictions.

I do not have any direct information, but can tell you there is an Edwin T Lindblom buried in Immanuel Lutheran cemetery in Almelund, Chisago County, his dates are 30 Jan 1889 to 17 Nov 1928, but his wife is Minnie, so may not be the correct person. There are a bunch of LIndbloms in that area, so that might be where they are from, do not worry about the differences in spelling, Swedes were well known for changing the spellings of their names and changing their names altogether. The part of the family you seek is so recent it is harder than if they were all before 1900, as there is more printed information about early residents. Your grandmother was probably born about 1935 or so which would make your great grandparents not born before 1900, so it will take some looking at 1920 census and before, the social security death records, the Minnesota death records, and a few other sources to see if we can find any of these people, unless you are lucky enough to have someone read this that knew your ancestors. Good luck and I will keep checking for you. I will do some further research and get back to you.
