Have been very busy this year being in charge of costuming Les Miz, which was a prize winning production, being in charge of my 50th high school class reunion and aging parents. But I may have a little time now, if you still need to find the information on your family, and I have not, I will check it in the parish record books for you.

I have a list of burials in that church's cemetery. I have not had any contact with that church during my research. Surnames: Swenson, Shaleen, Martin, Erlanson, Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/RGB.2ACE/80.1 Message Board Post: I found this write up of a Henry A. Swenson, I don't know if it connects, but has some similarities. Maybe you can find some connections or places to look in this write up. Good luck. Henry A. Swenson, county surveyor, was born at Chisago City, Minn., July 12, 1857, and was educated in the public scholls of his native township, the grammar schools of Taylors Falls, Minn., and at Carlton college, Northfield, Minn. Like other boys of his period he helped on the farm during his school days. From 1874 to 1876, while still in his teens, he taught school in Chisago and Isanti counties and for a part of two years, 1877-78, was clerk in the office of the state superintendent of public instruction. He then worked in the engineering department of the St. Paul & Duluth railroad as assistant chief engineer, from 1881 to 1890. He was in the real estate business at West Superior, now Superior, Wis., from 1890 to 1892, and a part of this time was government inspector of the harbor improvements at Superior. In 1893-95 he engaged in private engineering and surveying in Chisago and adjoining counties. From 1896 to 1902 he was assistant engineer for the Great Norther! n, Great Western, St. Paul & Duluth and Northern Pacific railroads and the St. Paul Union Depot Company. In 1902 he took charge of the drainage work in Chisago, Washington and Isanti counties, in which position he is serving at the present time. In 1899 he opened a civil engineering office in St. Paul, which he still conducts. In 1906 he was elected to his present position as surveyor of the county. He is a member of the Civil Engineering Society of St. Paul and also of the Commercial Club of St. Paul. Henry A. Swenson is the son of John and Sarah (Shaleen) Swenson. The former was born in Sweden and came to Chisago county, Minn., in 1855, being one of the earliest settlers in the county. Her first settled at Chisago City and after residing in that village for a short time purchased a farm in Chisago Lake township, which he improved and where he carried on general farming and stock raising to some extent until the time of his death. In the old country he studied and taught music and was organist for a large congregation. He died at his home on the farm at about sixty-five years of age. His widow survived him, dying in January, 1908. Both were member of the Swedish Lutheran church and are buried at Lindstrom. The father was a public spirited man, and while in the old country was a teacher in the parochial schools in connection with his profession as organist. To Mr. and Mrs. Henry A. Swenson were born eight children: John Alfred is cashier of the Scandinavian-Americ! an Bank at St. Paul; Henry A. Swenson is the second son; Oscar W. resides at Merriam Park, St. Paul, being superintendent for Foley Brothers, railroad contractors; Olive Agnes is the wife of George W. Martin, of Duluth, Minn.; Jennie C. died at the age of twenty-four years. She is the wife of Frank Erlanson, of Marine, Minn. Emily F., unmarried, died at Lindstrom in January, 1908. Two others died in infancy.

July 13, 1895 - Chicago, Cook Co IL marriage record; groom was John P. Bemer, b. "Resh City", MN; age 32; bride was (Mrs.) Annie (nee Lynch) O'Donnell, b. Ireland, age 38. (my g-g-mother) 1896-1897 - Chicago IL city directories list John P. Bemer's occupation as "Plasterer". They married 1895; by 1900 she was widowed - don't know where, when, why, or where he was buried - but she was boarding with the same couple who were witnesses to the marriage. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I could learn about John P. Bemer's origins?
Sounds like Rush city to me, there should be a birth record in the chisago county court house, If not a local church or newspaper. check the 1870 census for rush city and see if there are any bremers there or close by. check the cemetery records for the county and see if the bremers are buried anywhere, if it is a church it might be where the family records are. After May 9, I might be able to help you more, right now am up to my eyeballs in costumes, first dress rehearsal is tomorrow night. sue On 4 May 2003 14:20:53 -0600 mollx@hotmail.com writes: > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: Bemer, Lynch, O'Donnell > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/RGB.2ACE/83 > > Message Board Post: > > Chicago IL 1880 federal census (possible) is a John Van Bramer, age > 18, occupation "Frescoer"; living alone. > > July 13, 1895 - Chicago, Cook Co IL marriage record; > groom was John P.
