Dear Listmembers, The old German newspaper "Ostfriesische Nachrichten" was published by Pastor L. Hündling [Huendling} in 1882 in Iowa as a connecting paper between the people in the new American settlements and the old homeland with news and events in Ostfriesland and the "New World". Later you could find this newspaper all over the U.S. and Ostfriesland. For the period between 1882 and 1915 the issues were microfilmed around 20 - 30 years ago. According to a descendant of Pastor Huendling about 10 years ago, most of the issues between 1916 and 1971 got lost on the way to a processing center to be microfilmed. Besides Rev. Kenneth DeWall and others, who published in the past some indexes of (only) obituaries, we started in 1997 reading each newspaper for 1882 - 1915 and 1916 - 1971 (single issues) from the front to the back and taking all of the personal data in obituaries and local news into computer files. We added also interesting stories about the events in the New World - especially for the German readers -. So far we have listed 10,300 names of deceased between 1882 and 1915 plus 12,300 names of relatives, and until 1971 only 2,000 deceased / 5,000 relatives. Now we are looking for issues of this newspaper between 1916 and 1971. The undersigned would appreciate your answer if you have access to those issues. We have the microfilms from Crest Information Technologies and Heritage Crest, both in Cedar Rapids, IA. Most of the single issues after 1916 are scattered all over the U.S. and Germany. We guess, maybe finding them in the attics, etc. of old East Frisian settlements in the States. Thank you very much in advance for your help in preserving the data. Sincerely, Hans-Georg Boyken Ostfriesland-Society of Iowa, Inc. [email protected]

Hi Kaye, 1860 MN Census for Nicollet County, Traverse Township (near the Minnesota River north of Mankato) Louis Laramie married Tatodoota/Tateduta/Red Wind/Mary Red Iron by Father Augustine Ravoux around 1842 Mendota, MN. Mary was Sisseton/Wahpeton Indian (two of the seven Santee Tribes (Eastern Sioux) of MN) Children were Rosalie, Josephine Allaine, Louisa, Edward, and Narcisse McNeal (all marked as Indian on 1860 census records) Rosalie is my greatgreat grandmother whose records I have and her sister Louisa`s records. I going after Edward right now. After the Sisseton and Wahpeton were put on there reservation on the ND/SD/MN border Edward became a Indian Scout at Fort Wadsworth which was torn down and put back up three times between the three state borders, ending up near Sisseton, then renamed Fort Sisseton. That`s the last record I`ve got on Edward. Rosalie died in the Twin Cities and Louisa in Nicollet County, don`t know if the other kids went with the Indians or stayed in MN. Thanks Patrick

Hello veterans and newbies of the rootsweb. There are some really great folks who are willing to help just for the asking. I, myself do Volunteer research at Andersonville Civil War Prison in Andersonville Georgia. There are Any research I do is absolutely at NO cost and I am willing to do what I can. There are 259 prisoners on record from the state of Minnesota and more than 100 who died here, I thought I would send my offer. I feel the need to say I am not in anyway trying to focus on the horrors of Andersonville compared to any POW camp in the north ..( i.e.Elmira ) or any others and do not wish to stir up arguments on this site. My focus is dedicated to ALL of those held prisoner during this war , on both sides as well as all Americans who gave their freedoms for those that we enjoy today.. I just happen to be near Andersonville so this is where I do my work Here are my sources of research. There are 2 online databases to do lookups.....One by name...one by Company and Regiment. I also have a copy of the Dorence Atwater Death list which has the names and grave numbers of 12960 graves with only 460 marked as " UNKNOWN " This along with a CD I have which contains 34,000 names of the 45,000 who were imprisoned there which helps me find prisoner records because of misspellings of the names or alternate names. I visit the prison site every couple of weeks and have access to the onsite databases as well as the physical files. I would like to let you know of another service I offer which is to take photos of graves for a small fee. Please do not consider this spam as my research offer is FREE for the asking and will be posted on this county site only once. If there is anything I can do in helping your research at Andersonville, please just ask. Please visit my website dedicated to those Americans who were imprisoned and died in captivity while in the service to our country Kevn Frye Local Andersonville Historian / National Park Service Volunteer http://www.angelfire.com/ga2/Andersonvilleprison/index.html AOL USERS go to http://hometown.aol.com/andersonvillecw/

Hi guys: If anybody is around the death records, sometime. I'm looking for the death record of SARAH HARTER, after 1880. She is around 75 - 85 years old in 1880. So after I would say 1910, she'd be over 100 years old. She might be with a CHRISTOPHER (Chas. H.) FLEENER family after 1880. Shes involved in a very high concrete wall of mine. Thanks for your time Rodd
Hello, I just joined the list. I have been trying to follow my great grandfather, T. L. BUCHHOLZ, and family on their wanderings around Minnesota and South Dakota from about 1889 through 1937. He operated several hotels, including the Wentworth in Sioux Falls and the Columbian in Ortonville, during a period from about 1904 through 1912. Among the mementoes the family collected is a postcard menu from the Riverside Hotel in Montevideo, Minnesota. There is no date on the card. My question, are there resources available for this time period, such as city directories or business directories, that would list businesses and their operators? I would like to find out the dates that the family operated the hotel. Jim Bellingham WA (Yes Washington state) [email protected]

Hi all, I'm researching the family of Anne Veenstra and Antje "Annie" Vos who lived in Clara City from at least 1890 to 1912 if not longer. Anne and Annie came from Holland. I have no experience with Dutch research and can't even pronounce the names. I do not have access to Minnesota census records and was wondering if anyone here would be able to do a lookup of this family in 1900, 1910 or 1920. Is Minnesota even indexed? I'm looking for naturalization information. Neither Anne or Annie had SS numbers, so I can't obtain that info from the SSA. Thanks in advance.
