My best source of knowledge of 19th century life of my great grandparents, Samuel B. Embury and Hannah Goodge Hassing Embury Collins of Estherville Iowa comes from the columns of the Editor of the Carlton Vidette, W. H. Hassing. Mr. Hassing passed away in 1945 and Vidette was sold sometime after 1945 eventually it becoming absorbed by the Pine Knot in Cloquet. The two obituaries he wrote for his mother and step-father give me a window into their family life. I recently have received an obituary of O. Coulson, Mr. Hassing's aunt and have tried to find other articles that he wrote that describe his family life. In my search last year, I managed to track down his 92 year old son, Bernard,but he was in failing health and did not have a collection of his father's writings.
